I wasn't expecting Keaton to be convincing as the psycho in Pacific Heights just for the fact that he mostly did comedy back then, but turns out he did an amazing job and was terrifying. Oh yeah he was fine in that one. He had already done a drama by the time Batman came along. There were complaints about his height. I remember a comic book fan interviewed and he said Batman was supposed to be 6'2, 210 pounds. And Burton said at the time he could have picked someone like that and such a person wouldn't need a costume-just a ski mask--which was parodied in Mask of the Phantasm. Bob Kane said Robert Wagner was his choice for Batman.
Interestingly--Zorro was short--in the original novel. It said he was of smaller stature. The first depiction of Zorro as a superhero type was the 1937 serial Zorro Rides Again--there's a painting of the original Zorro as a Superman.
Guy Williams is far removed from the original concept.

I concur on the previous suggestions. Jennifer Lawrence initially seemed miscast in her role for Silver Linings Playbook. It was obviously written for an older woman, so Lawrence being only 21 at the time of filming raised doubt. I won't call her performance amazing, but it turned out really well and won her an Oscar.
Tom Cruise as Lestat in Interview With the Vampire. He was seen too much as a pretty boy actor to be taken seriously as a vampire, but his performance turned out alright.
Jack Nicholson was not the Jack Torrance depicted in the novel The Shining. Regardless, Nicholson has been praised and it's one of his best performances of his career.
