I say “Charlie Chaplin” but in fact the main role of Tillie was played by an actress named Marie Dressler who was apparently a big star at the time. Chaplin played a secondary role, for the last time in his career. He pretends to be romantically interested in her but in reality only wants her money. It’s a moderately funny slapstick comedy, worth watching in 2024 more as a curiosity than for genuine laughs (of which there are some, to be fair).
Random observations:
- This being a Keystone production, I now know where the expression “Keystone Cops” originates from! - In this movie and in two of the shorts that are included in the DVD, Chaplin plays a character that may look like the adorable “Tramp” that would become world famous later, but clearly doesn’t act like him. He’s a prick constantly picking fights and hitting and kicking people for no good reason. That was surprising to see.

I have seen it too. Some reports say Milton Berle was in it although I didn't recognize him. One must admit, though, that this film is for Chaplin/silent film buffs only. If you have to see every Chaplin film, you have to see his first feature length one.

Great Film. It's the first movie I saw Mabel Normand in and I instantly fell in love with her.
