This shit has to stop and should have been dealt with long ago. Wake Forest fans stormed the court after they beat Duke today. Duke's star Kyle Filipowski got a sprained ankle. Big deal, right? I don't see how the NCAA and the universities have let this nonsense go on. Sooner or later, someone was bound to be hurt and hurt badly. Opposing players, opposing coaches, opposing fans, referees, other fans. The NCAA has put in fines, $100,000 for first infraction, $250,000 for the 2nd etc. Think the fans give a blue shit? One of two way to stop it. One, arrest the fans. No Campus Police or local Po-Po will want to cuff 15,000 delirious fans. Two,take away home games. Make the announcement "If fans run onto the court, the next home game will be played behind closed doors." If it really continues, forfeit the games. No real need to, the threat alone will end it

I've been saying it for years. It's literally an accident waiting to happen, or worse, a deliberate assault waiting to happen. I can't believe there hasn't been an injury or a fight on the court before now.

Public address could lead the fans in a slow countdown from 30 to when it's allowed - anyone jumping the gun will be arrested.
If only there was an NCAA Commissioner for basketball. Football goalposts you can at least avoid.

Like a month ago fans stormed the court and knocked down Caitlin Clark. She is easily college basketballs biggest star right now and the NCAA did nothing then so unless somebody gets seriously hurt I can't see them doing anything. Not entirely sure what they can do. College students can be really fucking stupid and when sports or alcohol are involved they can be even dumber. You can't arrest everybody. Can't ban fans as that takes away money from the school and NCAA can't have that. Forfeit the game? That seems like a slippery slope. Try and put fences or guard rails around or something? Plexiglass or something like at hockey games? Netting like at baseball games? They are put in place for fans safety so maybe they try and spin it that way?

It should be banned, because logistics alone. Yet if they must retain it, why not give the visiting bench yellow shirted security detail. It's not like fans are out to assault the visitors, they just want zero rules mosh pit. Give the visitors the security detail/bubble with 3 minutes to go in the 4th.

The Wake Forest storm wasn't the only one. Don't forget this ugly incident
It seems to me to be getting much worse. Court storms used to be rare. And just for huge upsets and minnows knocking off giants, like Boston College beating North Carolina or Northwestern beating Michigan State. Creighton fans stormed Tuesday after the #16 Jays, with a 20-7 record, beat UConn. Wake was a five point favorite Saturday. If it was my school, I'd be slightly embarrassed. It's only the dreks who used to do this. You will never see Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, UConn fans ever storm a court.
I know the Brit version,"Pitch Invasions" used to be a big problem in the Hooligan Days. So they built the huge fences around the grounds. Which led indirectly to Hillsborough. From what I've read, they put an end to it with jail and fines to the fans. Speaking of Hillsborough, that's a reason to stop it. Not saying i can see 96 fans getting crushed but fans could get hurt or trampled.
The NCAA has already said that it's an issue better dealt with by the Conferences. So fuck all will been done.

Happens a lot during moments of "celebration" at the end of seasons (giving cretins a reason to run onto the pitch and get rowdy). In recent years we've seen players assaulted, managers involved in scuffles. It's easy to punish individuals but there's still not much being done to counter fans invading the pitch en masse. Incidents tend to be overlooked when fans gather on the field to "celebrate" but I think it should be outlawed regardless. All it takes is a single idiot to instigate violence - potentially leading to much worse consequences.

In the world of Professional Wrestling a referee would overturn the match and announce the loser as the winner.
Just make that the rule. No fan would dare storm the court.

Jay Bilas had nearly the best idea. Let the fans storm the court. But don't let them leave. Not until you take everyone's name. Then suspend their student pass for a month. A student does it again, their pass is revoked permanently. Fining the school won't work, no kid gives a rat's pooper if the school gets a $100,000 fine. Barriers/fences won't work. Most college venues have the fans nearly on the court, like Cameron Indoor and the Palestra. And it might lead to a Hillsborough. Security surrounding the visitors won't work. How are you going to do that in a game that is in doubt up to the last tenth of a second? And schools won't sign off on a penalty of a closed door game or a forfeit.

Funny thing is, this only really seems to happen in schools with a middling history. No one's storming Cameron Indoor when they have winning records with their eyes closed. I can't see why a yellow vested security detail can't bubble the visiting bench with 2 minutes to go & guarantee 30 minutes of bubble. What's the MLB & NBA rules on this? Growing up seeing the 70's Yankees fans storm Reggie or whatever, how'd that stop? NBA apparently, my history doesn't go far enough back - early 80's?? Besides, aren't we already in/entering the era of ID'd ticketing? Ability to CCTV fans from where they were sitting? No need to stop them, just have a cop show up at their door 72hrs later.

That's the thing, it's getting more common every week. I can see it if Mississippi Valley State beats Kentucky. They showed footage of North Carolina storming the court after beating Duke. I know how much they hate Duke but I'd be embarrassed to be a fan of a school that produced Bob McAdoo, Michael Jordan and Vince Carter to run around like East Idaho School for the Blind.
Security can protect the bench but not the five player on court. Look how fast the Wake fans were on Filipkowski

The more common it becomes, the quicker it'll cease with plan of action I'm sure.
