Glad to hear. You actually brought something up I didn't even think about. It is a bit campy and I think that is part of why I like it more than the first and part of what makes it feel in ways like an 80s fantasy movie. On that note, both big reasons I prefer the Lynch movie. At least to Part 1. I have a strange relationship with movies that are extremely 80s fantasy/sci-fi. I love many of aspects of them and I dislike many aspects of them. That is my feelings when it comes to Dune 1984. Dune: Part Two borrows some of what I love about them.

It's damn good. I did think Paul's transformation to potential tyrant felt a little rushed though. Also is Zendaya supposed to be a good actress? Does she do anything but scowl in her movies? Being a miss frowny face does seem to be her default mode, but she's actually really good in Euphoria.

Whenever Christopher Walken was on screen, I just couldn’t take him seriously. “The spice… is gonna flow!” I saw Part Two for the first time last night and I really enjoyed it. That said however, I did think that Christopher Walken as the Emperor was the weakest bit of casting in both parts. The 1984 version had the 72 year old José Ferrer as the emperor. Surely they could have found someone better for this role than the 80 year old Christopher Walken?

He wasn't given as much to do like in the original story, but Villeneuve directed him so well I think enough was said. One thing that I really appreciated was that Villeneuve allowed Walken to do a lot of physical acting, his facial expressions and body movement delivered exactly what was needed to sell the conflicts as the story unfolded. With that said though, neither Lynch or Villeneuve portray the Emperor quite exactly as how he is described in the lore, Shaddam IV is not supposed to look like a regular man exactly, he is quite old but through longevity treatments he looks roughly middle aged, but you can tell some of the aging is being hidden, like the number of older gentlemen and gentlewomen who get old and try to use plastic surgery to look like they are still in their prime.

Fine actor and I think he would have conveyed the pettiness of the character very well.

I have found it unfortunate that he is not more in-demand as an actor these days, I think in the last few years though he has been busy with his activism and taking care of his family, in the time of the making of both parts of Dune his son was battling rare and aggressive cancer.

I've been racking my brain, and the best choice I can think of at the moment would be the 71 year old Liam Neeson.
