I may or may not have watched the 1980 mini-series when it came out - at my age at the time I probably wouldn't have been interested in it. I read the book maybe five years ago, loved it, and then watched the mini-series. I am very much looking forward to the new one, but I think I will leave it for after all episodes are out.

I love the 1980s series, though it may be too slow for the younger audience nowadays. I bought the DVD copy of it a long time ago. After airing the series on TV, they compressed the series into a 2 hour movie. I saw it through a VHS rental. It included a leading lady nude scene not in the series. Actually, it was a very good editing job considering all the hours of footage had to be removed to retain the story. Not sure if that 2 hour movie is available anywhere. The TV spot for the new Shogun series looks great.

Saw the first episode of this last night. Looks interesting, think I'll follow it up.

I'm only two episodes in, but it's been great so far.

I'm curious to check it out. I've always been curious about the 80s mini series and the novel. Now that I'm looking it up there's also a TV movie from 1980. That's a lot of catching up to do, so I'll probably just cut right to the new version.
