If Tigers fans are relieved they no longer have Miguel Cabrera's albatross of a contract around their collective neck, they'll be happy to know they have Baez's now! Last I checked, he was batting a whopping .167! That's 6 years, $145 mill! ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/ebbptzel5/party.gif)

6 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 11K, 100 pitches. I think there were two three ball counts and one ball hit to the outfield. His next start either against SF or Atlanta. I'd like to see how he fares against a better lineup

Raffy hit a HR in his sixth straight game last night, a new Red Sox record. In a radio segment this morning, the DJ started by pointing out the Sox were 8 games out and sitting at .500. He then went into the Raffy story and said he'd be following it intently since 'we already have nothing else to cheer for' this season. And you guys think I'm negative.
Look, I don't expect anything from the Sox this year, the owners clearly mailed in the season before it began by not addressing key needs, and just not spending in general. While I'm not letting ownership off the hook (fans should demand more of their teams), I think it's fair to say the Sox have exceeded expectations thus far by at least being competitive (and yes, I consider .500 competitive). Fourth place in the division, 8 games back is not ideal, but it's striking distance-- in May. It's not like it's 15 games back and trending downward in mid-August. Again, I don't expect the Sox to challenge for the division or even a wild card spot in the grand scheme, but saying a .500 team in May already has nothing left to cheer for is taking negativity to the extreme.
I'm enjoying this little HR chase by Raffy, and I also think there are other things to cheer for at the moment. Let's save the gloom and doom until after the all-star break.

Enough teams make the playoffs these days that hovering around .500 for most of the season is all you need to do. Then, all it takes is a strong 2-3 weeks, or a 9-1 run and you're right there. If the Mets were at .500 now I'd be doing backflips. I haven't been following the Sox too closely, but I believe their pitching has been performing well above the line.

Second in MLB in team ERA at 2.97, can't ask for much better than that. Houck and Slaten combined for a shutout last night, though they were aided by some serious flashing of the leather. It's been a relatively fun team to watch so far, and to your point, anything is possible these days with the amount of wild cards available.

Today's Mets - Guardians game featured perhaps the worst pitching matchup of the year: Adrian Houser vs. Carlos Carrasco. However, before I could come on here and say so, Carrasco got placed on the IL. I guess the prospect of having to face the vaunted Mets lineup caused Cookie to shit out his spine. Addition by subtraction probably, whoever starts now for Cleveland will surely be an improvement.

Whats the feeling in Mets land regarding this? I know he declined a big extension in the offseason but given Cohens deep pockets id find it hard to believe they'd let him walk with the Mets fans really turning on ownership for doing so. Is there actual truth to these rumors or just the typical random headline grabber for clicks?

Whats the feeling in Mets land regarding this? I know he declined a big extension in the offseason but given Cohens deep pockets id find it hard to believe they'd let him walk with the Mets fans really turning on ownership for doing so. Is there actual truth to these rumors or just the typical random headline grabber for clicks? The report that he declined the big extension seems like a total non-story to me, as Alonso has always indicated that he wants to test the free agent waters. And he should. Now, there has been a lot of chatter amongst idiot Met fans about how if Alonso leaves, under any circumstances, that's it for them. They're done. Those people are stupid. I love Alonso. I love his energy, he wants to be here, he's an elite power hitter....but the Mets haven't done jack shit with him as the cornerstone of their offense. And let's face it, when he isn't hitting home runs, it renders him valueless. A few years ago, he had cut down his strikeouts and was getting noticeably better in terms of getting on base, his eye had improved, etc. Alonso at that level (from 2022, he slashed .271/.352/.518) is exactly who you want on a long-term deal. But he hasn't been that guy since and he has become so streaky that it's really tough when he's the only true power threat they have right now. He's going to turn 30 at the end of this year. I think if the Mets continue on this trajectory (of playing boring, listless baseball), then they'll at least entertain offers for him but I don't see a huge market to be honest. He's largely one-dimensional and he'll be a rental. Teams just aren't giving up valuable assets for that kind of return anymore. I do think though that if the Mets are serious about keeping him in Queens for his career, then they shouldn't trade him as it will give them a leg up when it comes to resigning him. If they trade him, I have a hard time seeing how he returns. For me, I love Pete, but I also love the direction the team is taking by prioritizing young, athletic players with years of control. It's something they had gotten so far away from and other teams have done so well to built controllable foundations. If Pete wants a $250m contract, I say let him sign with the Angels.

Is there no joy in Met-ville? I'm generally a joyful person, so I enjoy watching the young guys play well, namely Christian Scott and Mark Vientos. Other guys in AAA should get called up at some point this summer. Nobody is raining on this guy's parade!....... Beyond that, fuck me, this team is rough to watch on a daily basis. I thought they were at least playing spunky, spirited baseball earlier in the year and good god they blow. At this point, I am just hoping they continue to suck so they can unload the entire team and really load up their farm system, which looks 200% better now than it did at this point last year. Phillies look fantastic, and they look way more athletic than they have looked in recent years. They have power, speed and even, dare I say it....good defenders? Who the fuck is this team?! Happy times in Philly for sure.

The old school baseball guy in me still can't get past Schwarber leading off. But what do I know? They're playing their best ball since the Rollins / Utley / Howard years. The Philadelphian in me says it's a long season so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Fuck baseball. This injury truly is brutal. Two ACL tears in 4 years. That truly could change the rest of his career. We might not see peak Acuna again which is horrible for baseball. Such a young and exciting player easily top 3 player in the game and this may take away one of his biggest skill sets the rest of his career. He likely needs to not stress his knees so much so the idea of him playing outfield long term and stealing 70+ bases is fading. Actually saw some Bravos "fans" happy about this injury. Truly sickening.
