that make them hard to take seriously?
These ones come to mind. Haven't seen them so they could be good for all I know.
This one I have seen, but initially wrote it off for a while due to the poster:

I don't think the Air poster is all that far off from the tone of the movie.

I mean Ben Affleck's character in the movie is just a goofy dresser. As for Chris Tucker, I don't know why the fact that he has been MIA for years makes any difference. He is one of the characters in the movie so they put him on the poster. Blame the casting director for that, not the poster.

FYI I'm not saying any of these movies are bad or I won't watch them. I'm sure I'll watch them all at some point. I just can't help it if they look goofy.

I think the Shazam! poster is pretty fitting for the movie. *shrug* If it had been psycho Batfleck standing around texting and chewing bubblegum, sure. The bad posters I can think of are mostly the blu ray/4K updates of older movies, like Apollo 13 and Groundhog Day. I suppose the Scream 4 one is kinda shitty. David looks weirdly photoshopped, Neve is making duck lips, Emma looks like she's in a different movie, and "Scre4m" is dumb.

Kidman looks like Rosanna Arquette and Cage looks like the dad from ALF.

Just the knife as the Ghostface mask, I always thought was cool.

Dune part 2. And I haven't even seen a picture of it.

All the poster where they clearly just took a shot of the actor (sometimes, just the actor's face) and Photoshopped it onto the poster. It's so common, and it's not a new phenomenon either. Here's the poster for Groundhog Day: "Hey, let's take that publicity still of Bill's face and place it inside of a clock. Oh, and add some hands so it looks like he's trying to get out."

Hey, that looks like an extraneous amount of effort in comparison to the Apatow posters where it's just the actor's face and *nothing else*. "Oh look, some dude with a Jewfro. I think he was one of the multiple guys in The 40 Year Old Virgin? No, not Brian Fantana, the other one. He looks...bemused? I think that's his expression. How about that tagline...'what if this guy got you pregnant?' Based on the limited amount of information available about 'this guy', I suppose they'd have curly hair and a slow metabolism. Is that the joke? Is this a test? What are you trying to tell me, movie poster?!"
