It was announced at the end of last month that all 3 Lord of the Rings films are coming back to theaters for one day each (June 8th, 9th, and 10th) and it will be the extended editions. I only got to see Return of the King in theaters when I was a kid, but still to this day it's probably my favorite theatrical experience. I prefer the extended editions, so I figured I should probably take the opportunity to not only see the first two in theaters for the first time, but see the whole extended trilogy in theaters. Is anybody else gonna go see them?

I would like to, but they are so long. I don't think I'll have the time for them.
If it were the theatrical cuts I'd consider it more. They're like an hour shorter each.

They're like an hour shorter each. The extended editions have really long end credits, which makes it seem like that. Fellowship has about 30 minutes extra footage, Two Towers has about 40, and Return of the King has about 50 minutes.

Saw FOTR again a few years ago when it was rereleased. We were thinking about doing Two Towers this time, but with my son's sports schedule this time of year, it probably won't happen. It's strange that they're putting ROTK on a Monday. Why not put these ridiculously long movies on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday? Saturday, Sunday, Monday makes absolutely no sense.

I still haven't seen these in the theaters despite seemingly being rereleased every other week. I'll try to do it this time.

My friend said the exact same thing when I told him about it and I agree Friday would make more sense than Monday.

Just a heads up, it looks like the theaters that are doing it are only having 1 showing of each movie, so even though it's a month away they might be sold out soon. Where I am Fellowship and Two Towers are both at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday and Return of the King is at 7pm on Monday. I got my tickets yesterday and got the last decent seat for Fellowship and one of the last 2 decent seats for Return of the King. Two Towers seemed to have a few more non first couple rows seats available, but still not a lot.

I saw all three extended editions in one day in theatres in early 2020. Will never do anything like that again.

Still never saw the extended editions, or had the experience to watch any of the films in theatres for that matter. Still though, I'd rather watch them at home and I assume they're only playing in America.

That would be awesome. Doesn't seem to be happening in my city though.

I'd rather see them in the cinema. I can't see how it could be recreated onstage. 9 hours of shouting, smoke and loud thumping about.
