Empire: Evil Dead: Another Spin-Off Film In The Works With Francis Galluppi Directing2 new directors are separately developing Evil Dead projects with Sam Raimi producing. One of them is French director Sébastien Vaniček whose debut feature Vermin was a recent festival hit. The other is Francis Galluppi who wrote and directed Last Stop in Yuma County, which apparently comes out this weekend. I haven't seen either, but Sam Raimi has a good track record of choosing good filmmakers, and thus far there hasn't been a bad Evil Dead movie, but if they keep making more and more then that streak is gonna break. Anyway, maybe he's pitting these two projects against each other to see which will actually happen, or maybe neither will, but I don't think we need to overextend this series.

The crickets we're hearing are probably friends of Bruce Campbell.
I did like the last two films on some level, but the franchise isn't the same without Ashley.

I liked the two reboots even with the lack of Bruce Campbell/Ash, much as I miss him as well. I for one am curious about these next two, I'm not familiar with either director but neither was I with Fede Alvarez or the guy who did Rise at the time.

I liked the 2013 movie. And thought "Evil Dead Rise" was okay. I guess I wasn't as emotionally invested in the characters this time around. Compared to 2013. But I will say it pulled no punches. And wasn't afraid to kill off certain characters. Which is what some Horror movies are afraid to do. My feelings may change when I re-watch it in a few years.
Also I was shocked the Cat survived...

I liked the characters more in Rises than the remake. The remake characters were kinda blank slates besides the main girl.

I liked the characters more in Rises than the remake. The remake characters were kinda blank slates besides the main girl. I did too. There was definitely more effort put into the characterization there. There was a enough of a reason for those people to be in the cabin in the remake or reboot or whatever it was, that they sorta seemed to feel like that was enough effort for the script... which largely it was, I guess. The original doesn't necessarily showcase a depth of distinct personalties and back stories. It's more or less a reason for the effects and camera work, so in a lot of ways the re-whatever was in the same spirit. But I still miss Ash. The show was a lot of fun.

I haven’t seen the 2013 remake, but I want to.
I thought Evil Dead Rise was awful.
