Yet another film not seen in over a decade. Haven’t seen The Final Cut version but opted for the theatrical cut over Redux. The deleted scenes are interesting but really deviate from the main story. An Oscar winner for its cinematography, you get so many stunning images throughout; the Do Lung bridge sequence looks something out of a nightmare.
It really took some massive balls to pull off the helicopter attack sequence in an era prior to CGI assistance. Martin Sheen does have the perfect voice for narration. Curious to see how it would fared with OG Willard Harvey Keitel. When finally arriving at the Kurtz compound, it’s where the film hits a roadblock; it’s as if the movie doesn’t know how to find a satisfying conclusion. Kurtz rambles on and on before Willard hacks him up good. Willard leaves and that’s that.

The Final Cut is simply "Redux" minus the scene with the Playboy bunnies in the rain and the scene of Kurtz reading Time magazine.
I might be in the minority, but I don't think the movie hits a roadblock even after Brando shows up. The movie is still compelling in this whole part. But hey, that's just my opinion.

One of the best movies ever made. In one of my older reviews, I said it’s not an evolution of film, it’s a mutation.
Pretty sure I stole that from an ESPN article but I think it’s a good way to describe how dark, weird, and batshit crazy this movie is.

Final Cut, which I saw in the theater, is a decent go between. It was funny after it was over when my brother said "that one guy reminded me of Charlie Sheen".

Haven't bothered with The Final Cut and have only seen the Redux once. To me the theatrical cut is pretty damn near perfect as is. I used to kind of agree with you about it slowing down once they get to Kurtz, but I've grown to really love it, plus I think Brando's performance is fantastic. Duvall is also great in his limited screen time and Dennis Hopper is also pretty awesome in a small role. Sheen is really good in the lead and I've also always really liked Frederic Forrest as Chef. The cinematography is some of the best of all time and the soundtrack is great too. For me, Coppola's 70's is the best decade ever for any director.

Redux for me, it's f'n glorious. It's quietly become a regular summertime viewing for me.
