Any fans of this movie starring Brandon Lee? I got to see it for the first time recently and thought it was good. I'm reminded of "The Rocketeer" in the sense that, like with "The Rocketeer", "The Crow" is a little movie that came out in the 1990's that ended up becoming a cult favorite. I think the stylish look and filmmaking, along with the good performances, are what makes this movie memorable. Of course it's impossible to talk about this movie without mentioning the on-set accidental death of star Brandon Lee. Knowing about his death before seeing the movie helps give his performance a poignancy that helps make his work memorable. You can't help but wonder what his career would have been like if he had lived since many feel this would have been a breakthrough role for him. In regards to the upcoming remake, of course I think it's unnecessary and only being done to make money. Like with the sequels, the best approach would have been to not make Bill Skarsgard play the same role as Brandon Lee since, in the eyes of all, Brandon Lee is Eric Draven and vice versa. I don't see it being a disaster remake, but it has a lot going against it and will likely not hold a candle to the beloved 1994 original film. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: The Crow (1994) - 3 out of 4 stars"A year after his murder and that of his fiancée by inner-city hoodlums, a young rock musician rises from the grave, seeking vengeance; he's guided by a spectral crow. Dark, rainy, and violent, the film's familiar revenge plot is offset by a strong style and an aura of tragic melancholy. Great urban-hell production design, good performances. Lee died shortly before filming was complete; digital movie magic enabled him to appear in the rest of the picture. From James O'Barr's black and white comic book. Followed by a sequel, a TV movie, and a TV series."

A very good film. Alas, this film seemed to have its moment because of the tragedy. I've not seen much attention for it this entire 21st century either, not much chatter on it.

Such a good flick. Very moody and yet highly quotable. The mystique may come mostly from the tragedy, but I think it's appreciated on its merit as a quality film. I still say O'Barr ripped off The Wraith (1986) when he wrote The Crow comics, but the Crow does more with the premise.
While I agree the remake won't hold a candle to the original, I'm willing to check it out.

Solid gothic action film. I love the atmosphere and Lee was good in the part.

Only watched it once, and it was many years ago, but I remember being surprised by good it was. I thought it was going to get by on nostalgia.

Never quite clicked with me. Kind of a mid-range revenge flick with a goofy premise, and I don't think I liked the kid character. But Lee was good, and the soundtrack is often considered one of the best. If you like a 90s rock musician/band, chances are one of their songs is in the film.

I liked O'Barr's original comic better, though not a big fan of either. The movie is even more a product of it's time, very stylized, music video -like and often overdramatic. Though to be fair, compared to many other music video -like movies of that era (like The Replacement Killers), The Crow does have more substance to it, especially thanks to Brandon Lee so being great in his role, and there are other genuinely interesting characters and situations too. Always loved the pawn shop scene.
I don't remember a damn thing about The Crow: City of Angels, only that I did not like it when it came out on video. Never bothered with the rest.
Another thing, I'm quite sure that people who wrote Chuck Norris action thriller The Hitman had read O'Barr's comic, as there are interesting similarities.
