Been a while but I think it did a good job of taking the story and turning it into an enjoyable Hollywood epic/blockbuster. Also has moments of greatness like the Hector/Achilles fight and the scene where Peter O'Toole begs Achilles to give his son's body back. Eric Bana also kind of steals the show in general. Had a director's cut in 2007 that ups the violence and sex and is considered the definitive version of the film.

Kind of a bore other than the highlights you mentioned. The Achilles action scenes are all incredible, I'll give it that.

I love it. Feels like an epic and the ensemble is so good.
I’ll be the first to mention the obvious flaw with the Extended Cut - why did they remove the awesome bongo/drum score from the Hector/Achilles fight? That was a bad call.
The theatrical version is still really good too imo.

Seemed like an act of defiance to some degree, though I don’t know the full story. Very weird decision.

I always really liked it. Probably my favorite out of that surge of sword and sandal flicks we got in the 00s.

I finally watched it last year (theatrical version) and thought it was quite good. The battle scenes were done really well, James Horner's score was very good, and the sets and costumes were great. Pitt felt a bit miscast, but he was still solid. Brian Cox and Peter O'Toole were the main standouts for me.

Gave a rewatch to the directors cut and it’s damn good.

Good film, one of my favorite genres (sword and sandal). I have to agree the original score was much better with regards to the Achilles Hector fight.

It's really beautifully made, written, and acted. I think it's one of the great epics.

I really liked the film. The ensemble cast is excellent, with Eric Bana as a standout. There's good action in it and it perfectly set up The Odyssey with Sean Bean as Odysseus. It deserves a reevaluation.
