What do you all think of this movie? This is the prequel/sequel to "The Da Vinci Code" (prequel in terms of story, sequel in terms of movie a la "Temple of Doom"). I think most people consider it better than "The Da Vinci Code" but not by a whole lot. Still, it provided enough thrills and religious intrigue to be a box office success and create another "Da Vinci Code" sequel called "Inferno". Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Angels & Demons (2009) - 2.5 out of 4 stars"In this prequel to THE DA VINCI CODE (based on Dan Brown's best-selling novel), Harvard symbologist Hanks is recruited by the Vatican to help unravel a mystery with a ticking clock: four cardinals have been kidnapped and will die before midnight in ritualistic fashion before a stolen canister of powerfully explosive antimatter is detonated in St. Peter's Square. Is this the work of an ancient society known as the Illuminati? Or are the real enemies within the Vatican itself? Fast-paced thriller is engaging for a while, then turns repetitive, ponderous, and downright silly. As with THE DA VINCI CODE, this movie diminished the power of the book. Extended edition runs 146m. Super 35."

I saw The Da Vinci Code when my family rented it a long time ago and then I actually saw Angels & Demons in theaters. Haven't seen either one since then though and have been meaning to rewatch them for years. I remember liking both at the time, but have no clue what I'd think of them now.

much better than the first thanks to a ticking time plot and a greater sense of urgency compared to the turgid original. Main thing I remember about the first two movies is that Hans Zimmer went ridiculously hard with the scores. Like what the hell.

Tom Hanks agrees. Tom Hanks Calls The Da Vinci Code Movie Series 'Hooey': 'That Was a Commercial Enterprise'www.yahoo.com/entertainment/tom-hanks-calls-da-vinci-154424191.html"Tom Hanks is looking back on The Da Vinci Code as "delightful scavenger hunts that are about as accurate to history as the James Bond movies are to espionage." In a new interview with The New York Times, published Friday, the 65-year-old Academy Award winner said he's "not a cynic" when discussing history and his career β but when asked about whether he considered it cynical to make two sequels to 2006's The Da Vinci Code, he added, "God, that was a commercial enterprise. Yeah, those Robert Langdon sequels are hooey. The Da Vinci Code was hooey."
"I mean, [author] Dan Brown, God bless him, says, 'Here is a sculpture in a place in Paris! No, it's way over there. See how a cross is formed on a map? Well, it's sort of a cross,' " Hanks continued.
Of the books on which the film series is based, Hanks opined, "Those are delightful scavenger hunts that are about as accurate to history as the James Bond movies are to espionage."
"But they're as cynical as a crossword puzzle," Hanks continued. "All we were doing is promising a diversion."
And while he believes "There's nothing wrong with good commerce, provided it is good commerce," Hanks added, "By the time we made the third [film, Inferno], we proved that it wasn't such good commerce."At the end of the day, he's not complaining about having been part of the Ron Howard-directed mystery-thriller trilogy, which made close to $1.5 billion worldwide at the box office. "Let me tell you something else about The Da Vinci Code," Hanks said. "It was my 40th-something birthday. We were shooting in the Louvre at night. I changed my pants in front of the Mona Lisa! They brought me a birthday cake in the Grand Salon! Who gets to have that experience? Any cynicism there? Hell no!""

The other problem was the director, Ron Howard is simply too bland.

Never read the books and never saw Inferno. I didnβt realize this film was a prequel. Thought it was okay.
