I’ve seen all the movies now. Really liked the new one.
This will probably change soon, I want to rewatch all of them again. I have a feeling I’d like those last three a lot more now.
1. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 10/10 2. War for the Planet of the Apes - 8/10 3. Planet of the Apes (1968) - 8/10 4. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - 8/10 5. Beneath the Planet of the Apes - 8/10 6. Rise of the Planet of the Apes - 7/10 7. Battle for the Planet of the Apes - 6/10 8. Planet of the Apes (2001) - 3/10 9. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - 2/10 10. Escape from the Planet of the Apes - 2/10

Haven't seen Kingdom yet, but I did just rewatch the first 5 last week and the Serkis trilogy a couple weeks before that. A pretty consistent franchise for me. I genuinely like 6 of them (4 of which I'm a big fan of) and there's two more that don't fully come together, but I mostly enjoy. And even the remake I don't think is that bad.
War - 9/10 Dawn - 8.5/10 1968 - 8.5/10 Rise - 8/10 Escape - 7/10 Conquest - 7/10 Beneath - 6.5/10 Battle - 6.5/10 2001 - 5.5/10

There are some genuinely great parts and the visuals are aces, but it does take it a little too slow imo. Contrast with ‘Dawn,’ which moves so fast, and it feels somewhat reserved. ‘Dawn’ also has Koba going for it. He’s an awesome villain.

I’m assuming that second half of ‘Beneath’ didn’t do it for you? If so, I can definitely get that. I was in the right mood and rolled with it better than most. I think its bonkers finale actually plays pretty well despite itself.

I do love Koba and it seems like Dawn tends to be the fan favorite. I do think it's a terrific movie, but I've liked War better ever since it first came out. I love the story and I think it packs a big emotional punch. Also, Giacchino's score for War is one of my favorites of the 2010's.

Giacchino’s score for ‘War’ is one of my favorites in a recent blockbuster. That was one thing about ‘Kingdom’ that was a downgrade.

I know. I'm glad to see someone besides the two of us praise the score though haha

Planet of the Apes (1968) - 9/10 Escape from the Planet of the Apes - 8/10 Beneath the Planet of the Apes - 7.5/10 Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - 7/10 Battle for the Planet of the Apes - 6/10
I haven't seen any of the remakes
The first is still the best. The rest are unnecessary.
"He was a model for us all, a gorilla to remember... The dear departed once said to me, that he never met an ape he didn't like."
Taylor: "How in the hell did this upside down civilization get started?"
Dr. Zaius: "You may well call it upside down since you occupy its lowest level and deservedly so."

In the process of watching them all now. I’m about to watch Conquest and Battle for the first time.
My ranking, so far: 1) 1968 (9/10) Just a classic and nearly perfect in achieving what it sought to. Great commentary on multiple deep subjects. 2) Dawn (9/10) Every character’s motivations were so fleshed out. Koba was definitely the standout 3) War (8/10) 4) Escape (8/10) 5) Rise (8/10) 6) Beneath (6/10) 7) 2001 (5/10) Might change on rewatch since I’ve only seen it once a long time ago.

Not seen most of the newer ones yet, so bear that in mind.
Planet of the Apes - 10/10. Probably my favourite movie of the 60s.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes - 9/10. One of the greatest reboots ever made.
Beneath the Planet of the Apes - 8/10. This is a fun, campy sci-fi flick and my #1 movie of 1970.
Escape from the Planet of the Apes - 7/10. The idea was starting to wear a little thin by this stage. Still decent.
Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes - 6.5/10. A decent effort, even if it didn’t quite work out as well as intended.
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - 4/10. Meh. Rise did the whole origins thing a whole lot better.
And I can barely remember Battle for the Planet of the Apes, so won’t be rating it here. I recall finding it very so-so, however.
Looking forward to seeing Dawn, War and Kingdom.

Just saw Conquest. I’d rate it 7 out of 10 (6th place after Rise and above Beneath). A pretty well made sequel with a novel concept that doesn’t fully work, but is decent. It definitely pales compared to its remake (Rise) and I didn’t get as invested in the characters as Escape. It’s definitely more interesting and enjoyable than Beneath (which felt like half rehash of the original)
