For many people, myself included, it's still in the top 2 "Indiana Jones" movies if not at #1 (though it is #1 for some people). It may be a little safe and familiar (Nazi villains again, another religious artifact) since director Steven Spielberg wanted to make up for "Temple of Doom", but it has an entertaining prologue with River Phoenix, the fun chemistry between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery, good action and adventure, nice locations, humor, etc. Too bad the franchise didn't live up to its name and truly end with Indy and company literally riding off into the sunset. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) - 2.5 out of 4 stars
"Follow-the-numbers adventure spectacle has Ford in fine form and Connery adding panache as Indy's archaeologist father, whose mysterious disappearance (while searching for the Holy Grail) sets the story in motion. This deliberately old-fashioned Saturday matinee yarn has everything money can buy, but never really generates a sense of wonder and excitement. A definite improvement over the second Indiana Jones outing, but still bears the mark of one too many trips to the well. Oscar winner for sound effects editing. Followed by INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. Panavision."

Connery was a brilliant casting choice and he and Ford have fantastic chemistry. The story is fun, the music is great, and the action scenes are awesome. Just like the first two, it's a childhood favorite that I still absolutely love.

It is my #1. I prefer it a smidge over Raiders.

B+ ...it still feels aged up - Indy's father & his father's friends along for the trek, Indy wearing a tie. He had more adventuring in Temple & Skull.

Solid #2 in the franchise, even though it does look a little cheaper than the first two entries. It's just so much fun and the chemistry between Henry and Junior is terrific.

Perhaps the most fun of the series and the funniest. Already been stated that Ford and Connery have great chemistry, but what's funny is that there is only a 12-year age gap between the two, and you'd never notice it.

It almost feels like they go overboard with the humor in order to make up for the darkness of ToD, but the movie is just too damn fun to say anything negative about it. The origin story at the beginning is sometimes criticized for oversimplifying the Indy mystique (literally every character trait is explained in ten minutes); yet to me it's just plain brilliant. This movie is a blast from start to finish.
