A man estranged from his family visits his parents and adult sister. The father-and-son relationshp seems emotionally strained; the father is much closer to his ailing, elderly dog. The father has some medication given to him by the dog's vet, perhaps for euthanization, but he's reluctant to give it to him. The son, egged on by the sister, gives the medication to the dog. The son is upset when he sees the usually stoic father grieving for the dog and accuses the father of being more emotionally attached to the dog than to him. The father doesn't disagree, as the dog's loyalty and love towards him has always been more constant.
