I actually like this one a lot. It is beautifully animated and genuinely touching at some point. The opening scene is standout showing the dual narrative of Tarzan losing his parents and the gorillas losing their child. The villain is kind of a Gaston espy but Brian Blessed plays him to perfection and his death his surprisingly brutal. Surprisingly the comic relief Roie O'Donnell character isn't that bad. And who can forget the songs by Phil Collins? There's a meme about how "hard" Phil Collins went on the music for this film and that is totally accurate. Also like seeing Lance Henriksen doing a voice role in a big movie. He has a great voice. ![](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BY2ZiYWUxN2ItYmQxZi00NDlkLWE2NDAtOTNmYTg1MDI0NDk1XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjUwNzk3NDc@._V1_.jpg)

This is a really entertaining Disney animated film. I love the animation and the use of Deep Canvas to create the jungle backgrounds. The voice cast was well put together, with Glenn Close, Minnie Driver, and Lance Henriksen delivering some solid performances. And yes, Phil Collins's songs are fantastic. "Blame Canada" is fine, but "You'll Be in My Heart" is a soulful song that I'm glad it won the Oscar. I would have been okay if Randy Newman won it that year for "When She Loved Me" because that song was really touching.
I'll admit Clayton is a bit of lackluster villain. He's essentially a Gaston redux, but Brian Blessed is a skilled voice actor that he's entertaining to listen to. And his death scene is still frightening and dark for a Disney film.

Brian Blessed also performed Tarzan's famous yell.
