I haven't seen any of Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan" movies so I can't really comment on it. I'm surprised that Wilt Chamberlain was cast in this since he's more known for basketball than acting. At least we have May Day (Grace Jones) from "A View to a Kill" and Ursa (Sarah Douglas) from "Superman" in this movie. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Conan the Destroyer (1984) - 1.5 out of 4 stars"Lumbering attempt to pit Robert E. Howard's Hyborian Age hero against very derivative special effects--leading to ridiculous climax. J-D-C Scope."

The 1982 movie is a stone-cold classic. Been years since I watched this sequel but recall hating it. Felt cheap and juvenile compared to the original and lacked the kind of villain provided by James Earl Jones in the first film. One to be avoided IMO.

I'm surprised that Wilt Chamberlain was cast in this since he's more known for basketball than acting. I mean, Ahnie was more known for bodybuilding than acting when he did the first one. Though I haven't seen this to judge Wilt's performance.

And both of Thilsa Doom’s minions were footballers as well.

Not a great movie but enjoyable enough. It leans more into fantasy and tones things down to where it got a PG rating.

As I wrote in another thread: I've always liked this movie. I recently bought the "Complete Quest" DVD and rewatched both. The first is superior IMO, but that doesn't make the sequel a bad film. Yes, Destroyer has more humor, but let's not forget the original had Conan punching a camel and passing out face first into a bowl of soup. Yes, Barbarian had more violence, but Destroyer still has a beheading, a throat being cut, and one shot at the beginning where a lot of blood flows freely. Given the PG rating, it's pretty amazing what they got away with. The biggest differences to me were that Conan was definitely more of a thinker in Barbarian and, of course, the complete lack of sexual content in Destroyer, save for the important plot point of maintaining Jehnna's virginity. Apparently there was originally a sex scene between Conan and Queen Taramis that was cut to secure a PG rating. Too bad that wasn't restored for the DVD release. The "Complete Quest" DVD added a couple of additional scenes to Barbarian. Still, I enjoyed rewatching this movie in preparation for my newly created quote thread. Now the quote quest (try saying that three times fast ) is complete. Conan Movie Quote Threads

Never saw the second one. I liked the first one though. Don't listen to the 1.5 out of 4 stars thing is my advice. Kind of amazing how people get paid big bucks to say the same things said here. It's an even cushier job than being a quarterback.

Red Sonja's Kalidor is closer to Conan of the stories than the two other movies. Since he is alone and shows up in the story--he doesn't have all the supporting characters who take up the extra time. In the scene where he appears and takes on a dozen soldiers so she can escape--that's classic Conan.
