Bob Odenkirk's name made me perk. The Vietnam war also interests me. I'll need to know more about the direction, though. If this is going to be a political proselytizing in movie form, I'll probably skip it.

I guess I'm the skunk at the garden party on this one . When I read the OP the first thought that ran through my mind was: this is the Onion, right? I mean, they're not really going to make a Pentagon Papers movie... and then it struck me that it's true. This isn't the sort of stuff I want to hash over endlessly, what with Steven Spielberg and his living in the past friends grooving on telling Millennials how things were in the old days. The thing is, the Pentagon Papers was all over the news and in the newspapers; and it was covered on talk shows, radio and TV. There was also a paperback book, and I owned it. This is history that I don't want to go over again. Ever. But that's me. Maybe it's old age creeping up on me: Boomers trying to pass themselves off as more profound, committed, intelligent and idealistic than they really are or, if memory serves, ever were. Let the younger crowd discover these things on their own.

It is impossible to take things like this seriously given the problems we currently face (mass immigration/endless wars--some of which were done by Democrats, including Spielberg's gal Hillary). The media is untrustworthy. That includes the media owned by Wall Street like Spielberg's studios. It might as well be a Bolshevik news service.
Like a film I heard about the other day--a German film concerning a woman who seeks revenge for the murder of her Turkish drug dealer husband--killed by a nail bomb planted by....wait for it...white nationalists!
Rich detached from reality sobs who do not give a flying fuck how messed up things are or get. Spielberg did his part with his films to manipulate the sleeping audience.
Art that is detached from reality or ignores the interests of the majority public is propaganda.
Art has to have meaningful truths.
A film about the corruption of the MSM would be really good right about now, but Spielberg isn't the one to do it.
Not Michael Moore either.

There's no reality check where news and mass entertainment are concerned. Nor is there, for all the talk about thinking outside the box, much independent thinking. Fox news takes so many hits, and maybe rightly. I'm not a fan. Yet what comes from the NPR-PBS and N.Y. Times is widely regarded by many as near gospel. I find the smugness of the,--what to call them?--the coastal Ivy League Green Unitarian elite, insufferable. They still don't get it with Trump. Why he was elected, I mean. So many people are going to suffer so much due to the election of this man, and yet so much of what passes for Left in the mass media is about abandoned puppies and LGBT issues. Down to earth bread and butter wages, housing and health care issues are like an afterthought, if mentioned at all.

It sounds interesting but honestly, I'm still waiting for that Tintin sequel.

It was never totally pro-Trump despite alleging to be the conservative news service, but then what happens? Murdoch's kids take over and they make up excuses to get rid of popular hosts. I thought it was all about the money? Ratings? Capitalism? Apparently not. Seems to me they want control. Just as we see Theresa May responding to the attacks by calling for hate speech (by non muslims) to be banned on the internet. Has 1984 come yet? "World government is not only possible, it is inevitable; and when it comes, it will appeal to patriotism in its truest, in its only sense, the patriotism of men who love their national heritages so deeply that they wish to preserve them in safety for the common good." Peter Ustinov

The news is not good, my friend, and I can't see an end to the kinds of troubles we're facing any time soon. Watching movies and television (entertainment kind) are a pleasant diversion, and they let us forget the wolf at the door. They cannot make the wolf go away; nor can they tame him.
