Spoilers for Star Wars Rebels. I'm currently on early season 3 in my first watch of the show. Darth Maul.
I liked his introduction, and how unclear it was what his motives were. I was hoping they wouldn't just repeat what they did in the Clone Wars, and this time have him be more of a morally grey character, but nope he's just evil again, getting into duels with the main characters where you just know everyone will survive, boring. And then he kills the Seventh sister which annoyed me, as she was a really cool. I would have preferred to see more of her rather than shoehorn Maul in again.
He's a cool character and all, and Sam Witwer is great at voicing him, but I don't like what they did with him.
The show has now gone back to focusing on the core Rebels group and their missions and the show is so much better for it. I'm sure he'll pop up back again at some stage though so I hope he'll be better utilized. But this blue admiral who just got introduced seems very promising as the new villain.

His inclusion in the show always felt odd, as he didn't have a connection to any characters in the show, and it feels like they never knew quite what to do with him, and he's just this plot thread left over from TCW, so they'd better do something with him.

Yeah, maybe they could have given him a connection with Sabine, since she was from Mandalore and may have seen him during his time as Mandalore's overlord during the clone wars.

Honestly both Rebels and Clone Wars had some of the worst fan services.

Honestly both Rebels and Clone Wars had some of the worst fan services. Yeah some of them are quite tastefully done but it would probably be better without them. Pretty much my only gripe with Rebels thus far.

There are some morally grey “edges” to his character in Rebels. Since you already know he killed the Seventh Sister then I’m not spoiling anything. In the 2 part episode “Twilight of the Apprentice” he sides with the good guys, the Rebels crew against the Inquisitors. And he forms a friendship with Ezra. As you already know he did this for his own selfish, evil plans. But there will be some future grey edges to his character in upcoming episodes. I won’t spoil it. And let’s just say, you’ll find out where Darth Maul was during the Original Trilogy.

Well I finished season 3. The Twin Suns episode is the worst one yet. Did they seriously just kill Darth Maul? What a waste. May as well have not bothered putting him in the show at all if it just ends like that. It seems people eat this stuff up though. 9.3/10 on IMDb. Oh well maybe season 4 will at least be free of this nonsense and just focuses on the rebels.

It's shown how much Obi-Wan has grown after self-reflecting on his actions as a Jedi Master, while Maul has stagnated. It has a 9.3 rating because of the attention made to the character development.

Thinking about this more, I actually think problem was Maul had a fixation on Kenobi and Kenobi wasn't a part of the show - aside from a couple of guest spots , and this was an extraneous sub-plot for the show.
