The influential found footage film that was known for its early viral marketing campaign that turned this into a must-see event. When I first watched it I was like "that's it"? I do appreciate its subtle horror more after later viewings and also love the woods setting (the woods is the perfect setting for a horror film) but the movie probably would have had the biggest effect if you were there when it came out. Also, apparently some people though it was real? Uh yeah, I am sure if they found a tape of some lost kids they would have released it as a theatrical movie. Maybe people forgot to think in 1999.

Apparently they went so far as to give the actors fake death dates on IMDb. I do wish I saw it blind not knowing it's fictional, see how it would played for me. As is, it's just vaguely annoying actors having an unpleasant camping trip while occasionally finding weird sticks. But I'll take it over Paranormal Activity.

Kind of reminds me of something they did with an Italian horror movie in the 70s or 80s ( i think it was Italian) the actors where ask to hide for a year so people would think they where dead, the director was arrested for murder, so the actors had to come out of hiding to prove that they had not been killed during filming. Anyway I found The Blair Witch Project to be a mediocre movie.

The director of Cannibal Holocaust was arrested for murder and had to prove the movie was fake (which it was, except for the animal kiilling) but I was unaware the actors were asked to lay low.

Yeah that was the movie. The cast had signed contracts requiring them to disappear for a year after shooting to maintain the illusion that they had died.

Anyway I found The Blair Witch Project to be a mediocre movie. Quoted for agreement.

I never really liked it all that much, but then again found footage horror movies just aren't really my thing.

Remember seeing it a few days after its opening. Really creeped me out. Funny enough it was one of the first DVDs I bought back around 2001 or so. Buy a low res film as the first dvd, makes sense.
