John Carpenter
It isn't even close.

Having not completed either filmography yet, I would say Carpenter.

Carpenter. Craven isn't really a contender. Nothing against him, but Carpenter is one of my favourites.

Even though the first Scream and Nightmare would both make my top 5-10 horror movies, Carpenter was just a more stylish and versatile director.

Carpenter fell off after the 80's, but I'd still pick him here. I do love the first Scream and really like the original Elm Street though.

A very tough choice, but I went with Craven.

Hard call, but I tend to gravitate towards Craven’s films from the 70’s and 80’s than I do Carpenters. I find them more enjoyable and satisfying.
