The only thing that really hurts the first movie are the dated visual effects. But given that it's a low-budget movie, I'm more forgiving of that. You've got to work with what you can get and do.
I don't think we need more Terminator movies. If the James Cameron of the early 1990s were involved, then that would be different.

I think Cameron is cringy.

I re-watched both T1 and 2 recently, and there is nothing cringy about it. He was working with a shoestring budget, and with that and the available SFX of the era he actually did it very well. If anything, T2 has more cringy moments (even though from a technical aspect it is the vastly superior film).

“I don’t cringe on any of the dialogue, but I have a lower cringe factor than, apparently, a lot of people do around the dialogue that I write.” hah I don't think anything is cringy in the first--the second one has some cringe dialogue. The only thing that sticks out to me is where Reece is explaining why the machine can only send living matter and not a gun. That sounds so bizarre. Could have said the time machine can only send one subject a time and the terminator is a weapon.
Besides--the T2 is liquid metal and went through the machine....

The only part I don't think works is the rubber Ahnold head during the eye surgury scene. The endoskeleton moving like something out of Jason and the Argonauts is obviously dated as well, but looks cool.

The rubber head in the eye surgery scene is probably the worst effect since it doesn't look remotely real (compared to Terminator 2). Might have been better to use forced perspective and have the eye mechanism in front of his real face and used deep focus to merge them--or used rear projection of his head with the red eye mechanism component in front.
There's one line of dialogue that probably gets closest to cringe
"I came across time for you, Sarah."
