He had quite the life; joined the United States Army and achieved the rank of captain, became a helicopter pilot, and was offered a teaching position at USMA West Point. And of course, his successful singing/acting career.

I liked his performances in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star is Born. He was also really good in Blade. He was a fine country music singer to boot. May he rest in peace.

I'll always remember that time he screwed up one of his lines in Big Top Pee-Wee and just started over, and they left it in the film.
