One of you will no doubt post a match thread closer to the event (it won't be me as I'll be getting home just before the kick-off) But how about your thoughts ahead of the game?
Back in March of this year it was Chris Martin's late winner against Slovenia at Hampden Park that provided a smattering of hope for Scottish progression from Group F. It took them to 4th spot (of six) with 7 points, six behind England, two behind Slovakia and one behind Slovenia. That victory relieved manager Strachan of no small amount of pressure and he lived to fight another day.
Well, that day is almost upon him. England's last competitive outing was that two-nothing low-key victory at home to Lithuania with pots by Vardy and Defoe.
Strachan has been in an upbeat mood about the game on Saturday (5pm kick-off. It's on ITV and Sky Sports 1, for your info) "People are in good form and we must use that, use their enthusiasm and the enthusiasm of the crowd," he said on Monday.
Southgate, meanwhile, revealed on Monday that he's been hitching his squad up with members of the Royal Marines for rigorous training sessions at the RM Commando Training Centre in Devon : Kane and Co playing soldiers "I want eleven Arnold Schwarzeneggers out there on Saturday, and another half a dozen on the bench" said Southgate on Monday. "But I want them as Arnie in his prime, like what he was in 'Commando', the first one. He was shit-hot in the first one, and really wiped the floor with that big fucking ugly bastard of a monster." - (okay, I made that last bit up, but you catch where he's coming from with these military manoeuvres)
Scotland 9/2 England 7/10 Draw 5/2 (b365)

Wait... there is a qualifier on Friday?!?
That is crazy, the players should be on holiday putting their feet up by now.

Wait... there is a qualifier on Friday?!? That is crazy, the players should be on holiday putting their feet up by now. It's Saturday, I believe. Still a ridiculous schedule, though, in my eyes.

cool. should be good.
I cant see the Tartan lads getting a point - But I wouldn't mind them winning to give them a shot at qualification.
I think the Tottenham lads are still well up for it.

I don't think many care really .
for England any performance means fck all come tourney time
Scotland's odds of getting to a final are so slim its tough to get exited
The days of it being just a game in its own right are gone.

So the day of reckoning is upon us.
I've gotta admit, after being starved of football for a couple of weeks, looking forward to this now. Plus I'm procrastinating.

Not sure if anyone's gonna start a thread so this one will do for now. "Gordon Strachan has made two changes to the Scotland side that scraped past Slovenia in the last qualifier. Christophe Berra and Ikechi Anya are in; Russell Martin and James Forrest drop to the bench. The fit-again Leigh Griffiths is up front. Scott Brown captains. Harry Kane will lead out England for the first time. Marcus Rashford makes his second start, while West Bromwich Albion’s Jake Livermore is called into the midfield. Those aforementioned stars are three of five changes to the XI sent out against Lithuania last time round. Also stepping up: Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, John Stones, Raheem Sterling and Jermain Defoe drop to the bench; Michael Keane is out altogether."
Scotland: Gordon, Tierney, Berra, Mulgrew, Robertson, Brown, Morrison, Anya, Armstrong, Snodgrass, Griffiths. Subs: Hamilton, Marshall, R Martin, Reynolds, Bannan, D Fletcher, McArthur, Cairney, Fraser, Forrest, C Martin, Naismith.
England: Hart, Walker, Cahill, Smalling, Bertrand, Dier, Livermore, Alli, Lallana, Kane, Rashford. Subs: Trippier, Forster, Lingard, Gibson, Stones, Jones, Defoe, Sterling, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cresswell, Heaton, Butland.
Scotland 9/2 England 8/11 Draw 11/4
Preamble by Scott Murray : "So with the major leagues decided, the cups lifted, and the champions of Europe crowned, we’re all played out for the summer, right? Ah no, not quite. Just before we hit the run-out groove, there’s a bonus track, the Her Majesty to 2016-17’s Abbey Road: Scotland welcome the auld enemy England to Hampden Park for a crucial World Cup qualifier!
Well, it’s crucial for one of the teams at least. England are well clear at the top of Uefa Group F, a section they’re odds-on favourites to win. And no wonder: they haven’t lost a tournament qualification match for nearly eight years, for goodness sake! Top place should be a shoo-in, whatever happens today.
But Scotland’s hopes of second place, and a shot at World Cup qualification for the first time since 1998, are rather more in the balance. The jig looked up back in March, Gordon Strachan’s team coming off back-to-back 3-0 defeats in Slovakia and at Wembley, and struggling to break down Slovenia at home. But then Chris Martin popped up with an 88th-minute winner, and all is not yet lost. A draw today wouldn’t be the worst result in the world. As for a first victory over England at Hampden since Richard Gough headed a winner in 1985? Yeah, that’d work.
Expect the roof to come off this famous stadium should the home heroes win. Because it’d be about time. England have triumphed in seven of the last eight stagings of the oldest rivalry in world football, a run which stretches back to 1988. Scotland’s only victory since Gough’s Game was an ultimately futile 1-0 victory at Wembley in 1999, Don Hutchison’s winner not quite enough to pip England to a place at Euro 2000. So sending them homewards this evening to think again would be quite the landmark. Crazy to consider, given the balance of power these days, that Scotland boasted more wins in this fixture as recently as 1981. Times change, and quickly, huh.
Or maybe not. That historical quirk obscures the fact that Scotland have only beaten England a dozen times since the war. Can they make it unlucky 13 for England today? It’s a tall order, given how Gareth Southgate’s side swatted them aside with a yawn last November. And the English front line will be led by their inspired new captain Harry Kane, a man who has scored seven goals in his last two matches. Then again, Scotland can call on Leigh Griffiths, who as one of the Celtic Invincibles won’t be feeling too bad about himself right now either. A free-scoring classic, then, isn’t beyond the realms. Let’s play nicely, and learn to love each other. Good luck everyone! It’s on!"

Scottish captain Scott Brown lays down the law to Deli Alli in the third minute. But pays the dangerous price of a Yellow.

Scotland still well in it here, but the game's boring the life out of me. In Group C it's also goalless in Azerbaijan where Northern Ireland are striving to keep some kind of tabs on group leaders Germany who face San Marino later.

Are we just rubbish or is Scotland decent. Dunno, mate, but Robertson just fired wide from 12 yards when he should have put it past Hart, eh?
