Right before The Oscars we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Best Picture winner of 1965. Musicals aren't usually my preferred movie genre, but I do remember liking this one when first seeing it as a kid. There are memorable songs, like the title song and the "Do Re Mi" song, and you have memorable performances from Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. I remember Plummer actually disliking this movie for many years before finally starting to warm up to it in his later years of his life. The movie will be making its debut on 4K sometime in 2025 from recent news. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: The Sound of Music (1965) - 3.5 out of 4 stars
"Call it corn if you like, but blockbuster Rodgers & Hammerstein musical based on Austria's real-life Von Trapp family, who fled their homeland in 1938 to escape from Nazi rule, pleased more people than practically any other film in history. Fine music, beautiful scenery help offset coy aspects of script. Five Oscars include Best Picture, Director, Score Adaptation (Irwin Kostal), Editing (William Reynolds). Screenplay by Ernest Lehman, based on Howard Lindsay--Russell Crouse Broadway show. Songs include "Do Re Mi," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and title tune. Roadshow version on video includes and intermission/entr'acte. Todd-AO.

Catman recalls that at the time of its original release, the movie became ensconced in Iowa movie theaters for over a year. Not sure if that happened elsewhere.

Its a decent movie.
Apparently the movie is virtually unknown in the German speaking world.

Indeed, its German premiere caused some issues. The last third was deleted, ending with the wedding.
