..put out songs with real singing, and lyrics that don't have to do with Satan, blood and death, etc. I was watching some black metal videos on YouTube the other day, and while I admire much of the music from a technical standpoint, once the "singing" starts I can't help but roll my eyes at both the vocals themselves and the lyrical content (the latter of which sounds like the shitty poetry of a fifteen year old goth kid). It completely ruins it for me. I couldn't help thinking that the ballsiest thing a band could do is release an album with more serious lyrical content, and real vocals.

Anaal Nathrakh use clean vocals sometimes. I don't particularly like it when they do though.

So.. you just like normal metal then.
Without the growling and Satan stuff it wouldn't be black metal.

not exactly the same thing but I heard two Slayer covers yesterday by what I'd assume you'd call death metal bands. Sounded like they downtuned their guitars and it was awesome - until some of the worst, most incompetent vocals kicked in.

I'm very sensitive to extreme vocals. The likes of Cannibal Corpse doesn't do it for me. So far, the ones I find acceptable: Arch Enemy, At the Gates, Death, In Flames, Napalm Death, Opeth.
