It looks to me like the average rating is back to being listed as a 7.6. Which doesn't change the point. It's quite in line with a lot of other films. I don't think a ton of people are declaring WW to be one of the best films ever made though. Most people just agree that it's a very good origin film that has a lot of heart. The fact that it's the first female-led superhero movie to actually be good is a nice bonus.

Yeah that's what I'm saying too.
Also I'm still not sure why the first woman thing is all that big of a deal. We do live in a world where Sigourney Weaver made a name for herself decades ago leading the Alien series. This isn't all that new of a thing. And we have Terminator, Kill Bill, Hunger Games, Resident Evil, Underworld, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo films, Charlie's Angels, Tomb Raider, and ton's of solo films from Foxy Brown way back when to Fury Road recently. And most of those are comic series, so I don't think Wonder Woman really wears that "first" crown.

The only people who really care are those like DC-Fan. They're so desperate to have the DCEU finally one-up Marvel they'll take anything, no matter how flimsy it is.

It's 7.6 and WW is in the top three of the best reviewed super hero genre movies to date. It's also considered a milestone in the genre.

The milestone is also a bit exaggerated. We do live in a world with many female led series like Alien, Terminator, Kill Bill, Underworld, Resident Evil, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Tomb Raider, and lots of other series and solo films staring women. And we've already had traditional comic book heroines before too. I appreciate female characters getting more focus, but there's really nothing groundbreaking about it. We've had them for decades.

Not to mention calling anything about WW "a milestone" is disingenuous at best. The film exists because of the MCU.

They definitely would never have made the Wonder Woman movie without the MCU showing them unconventional superhero leads can work.

They definitely would never have made the Wonder Woman movie without the MCU showing them unconventional superhero leads can work. This is probably the primary reason to respect the MCU. They lead the way. Now that's not to take anything away from the early boom days of Spiderman 2 and X-Men, but there are two clearly different eras. The MCU, and everything before it. The MCU is the evolution of comics on film.

Sure, people would have their preferences, but there was little of this "US vs. THEM" mentality that's just taken off since Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. I really do blame the current unfriendly status of comic book fandom of DC fans, though. They were the ones who started getting arrogant and uppity after The Dark Knight.

Personally I think they'd rather have the deeper roster of characters that Marvel has, and so they feel the need to really push and promote the one or two characters they do have. As Marvel fans there is so much more to like than just Spiderman, or just Wolverine, or just Captain America.
Hell that Black Panther trailer has me pumped and I fucking can't wait for Thor.

In other words, it's petty jealousy.

DC has a pretty deep roster of characters as well. WB may not have taken advantage of it in the past, but the DC universe is every bit as big and diverse as the Marvel universe.

In other words, it's petty jealousy. It's having no other options. Just count the list of Marvel based films there have been even outside the MCU and then try to count the number of DC films that don't involve Superman or Batman. Wonder Woman couldn't even fully avoid it. If marvel had to keep going back to the same well over and over I would have gotten tired of them too. There hasn't even been a good Superman film since the early 80's but they've barely tried anything else aside from Batman. They just don't have anything else.

Ah, but the WB is being run by a bunch of monkeys with brain disease. They'll never be able to do it. Wonder Woman was a fun fluke, but they won't be able to repeat its success.

Unfortunately, WB/DC will never be able to take advantage of their full roster of more obscure characters the way Marvel has. They just don't have the balls or vision.

They're making an Aquaman movie. That has a lot of potential as a film.

I know they have characters, but are they marketable? Wake me up when Hawkman or Martian Manhunter or Blue Beetle trilogies happen. I'm not even sure Flash and Aquaman are viable franchises and I'll go ahead and say that I'll be shocked if Cyborg gets any traction.
Meanwhile just count up the number of Marvel franchises there have been in and out of the MCU. It's overwhelming by comparison. DC has always been overly reliant on Superman or Batman. And Marvel has always run events led by the deeper roster, some that don't feature their main members at all.

They're making an Aquaman movie. That has a lot of potential as a film. Only because of James Wan. The instant he leaves, that's franchise is screwed.

You could just as easily have made the same argument for Ant-Man and Black Panther in regards to whether or not they were marketable before the MCU. Besides, I'd say the Green Lantern Corps are pretty damn marketable, despite how badly WB botched it up with the 2011 film. An intergalactic police force of all kinds of all kinds of alien species with rings that can manipulate matter? There's a ton of potential in that.
