Both are great but I'd go with Purple. The top songs are slightly less overplayed (with the exception of Interstate Love Song), and the whole album feels fresher from top to bottom. Meatplow, Vasoline, and Army Ants are still especially strong tracks in my world.

That's the problem. Core was just played into the ground. Purple had a better flow to it. Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart is my favorite of theirs, so perhaps that means my judgment is impartial.

On Core they seemed to ape the Seattle sound more. On Purple the seemed more like their own band.

Purple is my all-time favorite album. Great from start to finish. Still Remains and Army Ants rank high on my list of favorite "b sides" on any any artist's album.

Core in my opinion, but it's very close. But that is just my personal opinion.
