When I was a kid in the mid-80s I would go to work with my mom, and I remember a couple of times sitting in the big conference room late at night and there being a sci fi movie on TV. The only thing I can remember of it was a scene (or scenes) where a red powder was poured on victim's faces and they melted away. Like a villain(?) took a pouch of red powder and poured it on someone's face and it melted. That scene prob just stood out to me because I was like 5 and it terrified me. Anyhow, it was definitely in color, I assume from the early 80s, maybe late 70s. If anyone can name it it'd be appreciated.

What other elements do you remember that makes you think it is sci-fi vs. horror?

Michael Ironside's character (one of the heroes) kills Andrew Prine's character (one of the villains) in that way at the end of "V" the miniseries from 1984.
As I recall the red powder did not melt his face, but I think in his death throes he clawed away his human mask revealing parts of his alien lizard face underneath.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this is what I saw. Ty very much for that. I Googled it and looked at a few images. Looks like what I vaguely remember. I thought I remembered someone in red cloaks or something, and those guys are in red uniforms in the miniseries. The 'Red Dust' bio weapon had to be what I saw. And 1984 is definitely the right time period.

I hope it's the one you're looking for. I tried to find a video or even a still photo of the red powder execution but could not find one.

I found a few stills of the powder on the guy's face. It has to be what I saw, and the date lines up. I'm going to mark this as solved. I appreciate it, folks. Wondered for years what it was.

I agree Takeshi-K, this is the first post I've read that truly reminds me of an imdb question and answer, the asker responded and added solved, this is what I miss about imdb, well done.

The Herald Erjen also did this, and I was the solver. The Mad Doctor of Market Street (1942) < Link to that thread.
