For the past two or three years everyone's been saying Nadal is done, he'll never win another major, he should retire, yadda yadda. And then he made the Australian Open final in that throwback championship match with Federer, and now this French Open win. I'm happy to see Nadal winning and competitive again. isn't he kind of a one trick pony though? just wins on clay? kind of like a 3 point shooter in basketball and that's all he can really do. a power running back in football and you put him on the one yard line and thats when he busts through the line for a td, a DH with power in baseball when you're down 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth and you need a pinch hitter who may go yard, a bruiser and goon in hockey when you need to go after the other teams star? is nadal an enigma or one of the greatest ever. intriguing being he's so dominant on clay.......

Definitely not a one-trick pony. Keep in mind Nadal has 5 other majors titles, the grand slam, and an Olympic singles gold medal. He's won the US Open and Wimbledon twice each, and one of the wins at Wimbledon was that epic final against Roger Federer that went something like 5 hours and is widely considered one of the best tennis games ever played. Most players would kill for that kind of career even if you took away all 10 French Open titles. Nadal's also 6th all time in career wins (majors and minors) and needs only 4 more wins to move into 4th place, which is a guarantee now barring any freak career ending injury. If he's healthy for a few more years he'll even pull within striking distance of 2nd all time. The thing is, clay players have always been specialists, even more so than grass players. But Nadal isn't just a clay specialist, and he isn't "just" the greatest clay player of all time by a massive margin, he's had enormous success on other surfaces. I think the Federer vs Nadal debate could go either way honestly, with legit arguments for both of them. I'm just glad I've gotten to witness this era and even had the privilege of seeing a handful of their matches in person.

Brett Farve, he came out of retirement and almost took the Vikings to the promised land. Of course, it was his INT which was the spectacular car crash... most of us saw coming 20 miles away.

If Tiger were to win another major, the argument for #1 is probably over.

If Tiger were to win another major, the argument for #1 is probably over. It just proves how important mental toughness and focus is in golf, because Woods basically destroyed himself mentally when the scandals broke and his marriage imploded. The DUI isn't a good sign either.

Warner was a rags to riches story from bag boy at a grocery store to best QB in the league. Because of injuries he was written off, but became a top QB again and almost won another SB with the Cards who were a joke before him (as were the Rams). He is my vote. I guess he isn't eligible but I gotta give Dick Vermeil props for leading Warner's Rams to a championship almost 20 years after taking the Eagles to the SB

I think his winning at St. Andrew's earns a bonus for cred. Daly's 2 majors were real & I like listing athletes who's success we forget about. Like Nolan Ryan, winning a World Series title with the f'n Miracle Mets of all random fateful teams - meanwhile he's best known for being the strikeout & no hit king with the Angels, Astros, & Rangers.

Best example ever is.... Andre Agassi (...) By the way, the hair wasn't real. This was a wig. He was a douche. I hated him. Is this true, or are you making it up?

He was signed by the Packers, was cut, and went from HyVee to AFL to NFL Europe to the Rams. He won the Super Bowl with the Rams, lost his starting job ( to Marc Bulger ) and was cut by the Rams. He signed with the Giants, lost his starting job ( to Eli Manning ) and was cut by the Giants. He signed with the Cardinals, lost his starting job ( to Matt Leinart ) and then regained it, and led them to the Super Bowl. Meaning he has overcome adversity more than a few times.

Andre and all that famous hair....was a wig. Funny thing about that, a friend of mine who was a great tennis player and knew everything about the game told me during the early part of Agassi's career that it was a wig. I didn't believe him. He said, "Don't believe me, just look at his brother Phil." Just look at this photo. Phil is just four years older than Andre...and already bald. My tennis friend was so right about that wig, I just didn't believe him at the time. My friend also clued me in that Agassi was Iranian...something Andre and family kept very hush hush.

Agassi made the confession about his locks, which won him a legion of female admirers, in his new autobiography, Open. "Every morning I would get up and find another piece of my identity on the pillow, in the wash basin, down the plughole. "I asked myself: you want to wear a toupee? On the tennis court? I answered myself; what else could I do?" He wore the wig for the French Open in 1990, the first time he had reached a Grand Slam final. "Then a fiasco happened," he said. "The evening before the match I stood under the shower and felt my wig suddenly fall apart. "Probably I used the wrong hair rinse. I panicked and called my brother Philly into the room. "It’s a total disaster!" I said to him. He looked at it and said he could clamp it with hair clips. "It took 20 clips. "Do you think it will hold?" I asked. "Just don’t move so much," he said. "Of course I could have played without my hairpiece, but what would all the journalists have written if they knew that all the time I was really wearing a wig? "During the warming-up training before play I prayed. Not for victory, but that my hairpiece would not fall off. "With each leap, I imagine it falling into the sand. I imagine millions of spectators move closer to their TV sets, their eyes widening and, in dozens of dialects and languages, ask how Andre Agassi’s hair has fallen from his head. It was Brooke Shields, who he married, who suggested he cut all his hair off. "She said I should shave my head," he said. "It was like suggesting I should have all my teeth out. "Nevertheless, I thought for a few days about it, about the agonies it caused me, the hypocrisy and lies." After an 11-minute haircut, his appearance had changed dramatically. "A stranger stood before me in the mirror and smiled," he said. "'My wig was like a chain and the ridiculously long strands in three colors, like an iron ball which hung on it."

Doug Flutie was a bust his first time through the NFL. Lit up Canada and was gods for the Bills (last decent QB they have had)
