Legendary Director John Landis Trashes the Marvel Cinematic Universe
It's certainly hard to discount the enormous success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has released 15 hit movies over the past nine years with varying degrees of success, although none of their movies are considered total flops by any means. The MCU's latest movie, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, is both a critical hit (81% on Rotten Tomatoes) and a commercial hit ($823.3 million worldwide), much like most of the other MCU movies, but the franchise certainly has no shortage of detractors. One of those is legendary director John Landis, who bluntly stated that he's "bored shitless" with the franchise in a new interview. Here's what he had to say, when asked his thoughts about shared universe's as a whole, and why Wonder Woman was received so well.
"I'm just... truthfully, I'm bored shitless with the Marvel Universe now. All the superhero movies tend to be interchangeable, you always have these mass destruction of cities, and huge computer-generated extravaganzas, to the point where you could take a reel from any of the Marvel superhero movies, and put it any of the others, and nobody would notice. It's just, they're the same thing over and over again. But, I don't know, people are showing up. One of the reasons Wonder Woman has been received so well by the critics is that it doesn't destroy cities! Even the superhero stuff is on a very human scale, it's the gods! We're not seeing skyscrapers tumbling!"

his opinion is his so that's fine, I can understand why someone/he would get bored.
but......are the mcu films known for city destruction? I mean.....off the top of my head only The Avengers, AoU, and maybe Thor3 fall under that category.

The MCU has gone out of it's way to diversify it's films. Sci Fi, to Thriller, to simple to blowout blockbuster. Just look at the differences between what's coming from Black Panther to Thor to Spidey and we just had Guardians and Dr Strange and Civil War.
I'd love to hear what doesn't make him bored.
The MCU is anything but interchangeable. I don't care what his qualifications are, he's completely off his rocker here.

Is he mixing the DCEU up with the MCU? The only times we have seen destroyed cities was the Avengers movies. And "We're not seeing skyscrapers tumble"? She jumps through a church to get at a guy. I'm wondering if he is speaking up for his boy. Max Landis was crying the same thing a while back when his movie was overlooked. And the reason Wonder Woman is being received so well is because it isn't the other DCEU movies. People aren't comparing it to Marvel. They are comparing it to the movies in house.

1. he's a point.
b) do you think he realizes this describes all the prior DCEU movies, arguably moreso than the MCU as a whole?

To those mentioning DC films, I too am wondering if he watched MoS and BvS, while thinking they were part of Marvel?

he is not the first public figure to trash the mcu. many other public figures have done the same.
its sad when people lump an x-men movie in the mcu since x-men movies have always been different long before the mcu showed up.
its sadder when you realise the x-men apocalypse was trying to be like an mcu movie after the masterpiece that was DOFP. Jut happy Logan was a quick follow up that easily wiped out the bad taste of apocalypse.

That's because they tried to do 2 things: make an Avengers and X-men movie at the same time while adding in everything from past X-men movies and try to make a Thanos/Darkseid level villain before the others could while keeping Magneto the main villain.
