According to siteworthtraffic the amount of users visiting IMDb in the past 7 days is 32% lower than the average amount of weekly visits 6 months ago. Based on the site's daily estimates, IMDb will make roughly 10 thousand dollars per day less from ads than they used to if the amount of visitors stays at the current amount. Did you expect such a drop in the amount of people visiting IMDb? Do you think this drop in visitors is temporary or permanent? Do you think IMDb regrets its decision to close down the message boards?

Yes. I actually expected more of a drop. I hope it is permanent and I think it will be and gets worse. $10,000 a day is a lot of money for me but they might feel differently.

One has to wonder if they counted all those bots as unique visitors LOL!
Yeah over time it will drop substantially. The bots and an occasional visitor will be their audience. The whole thing will end up being sold off...hopefully the new owners will be caring and reasonable people and will have a team of moderators that do nothing BUT moderate to keep the place clear of hackers and those nasty trolls. The archives are all still in existence but unfortunately they are on servers in Col Needham's residence. Amazon doesn't own those.
I hear some rumors about Bezos too. Let's just say, people sing like canaries when caught in the dark world he has been a degenerate in. Stay tuned.

Take anything those type of websites say with a very large pinch of salt
They use browser extensions (you know the search bar crap you install) to monitor traffic and then extrapolate from there
Reality is they have no idea as to the real traffic

I expect it to drop further. I think a lot of people might not have noticed they are gone yet and since they havent been gone a full week yet then its hard to see what a full week with no forums there will look like for them. Many also are probably still going out of habit and will have to break that.

According to siteworthtraffic the amount of users visiting IMDb in the past 7 days is 32% lower than the average amount of weekly visits 6 months ago I'm not surprised by the drop. The two features of the IMDb I used the most often were the message boards and the polls. The message boards are gone. And since I logged out of the site four days ago and haven't logged back in (nor do I plan to), I haven't taken any polls. The only thing that does surprise is how little I miss the IMDb. Thanks again to the Admin!

$10 000 per day would have employed a bunch of moderators. With some bucks left over.

I just got an email that said IMDb is going to have a live viewing party for the Oscars this Sunday. This is the first time they've ever done this, so I guess they are trying to lure people back to the site with a big event. I won't be there for it.

Do you think IMDb regrets its decision to close down the message boards? Well, yeah. They made it so their daily users (people who posted on the message boards) have no reason to go there anymore. They will regret this decision. I wonder if they will contemplate bringing the boards back and if that would even make a difference?

Me to thanks to this and one or two other sites. Thank you Admins! Same here, I thought it would be worse but thanks to this one and TMDB i'm doing just fine without IMDB. I haven't been back there in 6 days and don't plan on giving them any clicks any time soon.

Did I expect IMDB to have a drop? Yes. Do I expect it will drop even further? Yes. Do I think it'll be permanent? As long as there's no boards, yes.
Do I expect IMDB to bring back the message boards if traffic drops too low?.... Possibly but that'll be a very long time from now.

I suspect it will continue to see drops for a while and eventually even out. It will simply be a depository of information with no interaction or means to interact with anyone.
