The point about not truly being about to appreciate tennis unless you are watching it from the event is well made, especially for the women's game. I don't think I've ever seen a woman hit the ball harder than Svetlana Kuznetsova when I saw her play live.

Golf is the dogs - and as a wimbeldon born lad(I am not hiding my bias at all)
Its only about Wimbledon for me on a tennis front. Golf is the cats pyjamas
If you said USPGA v Wimbledon - I would go Wimbledon though. A 4th major(golf) should be in a different part of the world.
I do love a bit of the USPGA but its just a carbon copy these days - from the once different format of matchplay. It doesnt offer much variety.
Augusta/links/US major are all different and special enough.
From a non biased pov tennis grand slams ave it right. Different surfaces, different cultures. I admit that the combination is better for a global sport.
I also respect tennis players, possibly the ultimate sportsmen/women.
I am just a big golf fan.(playing mainly).

Tennis elbow vs. Golfer's elbow.
I had a surgery four weeks ago because of the latter.
It hurts, hence it is sport.

Golf is my number one sport - Its my game - I play (not bing big headed) to a good standard and I it would be my mastermind sport topic.
I dont care if people regard it a sport or not - it doesnt diminsh it at all for me. It is what it is.
But like I said I truly respect tennis as a sport - and I love Wimbledon.
Growing up - 'all' brits love Wimbledon. Even if we rarely have anyone to cheer on. I was a huge Conners and Mcenroe fan. And I liked Biorg, Beckers skill as well.
I also love the big serve battle against the more skilful player (the David and Goliath that used to happen so often on grass)
So whilst us brits(like me that only really watch Wimbledon which could seem isolated. We have watched whilst cheering on all comers from all sides of the globe - so its not all isolation or patriotism. Its purely the game we love. Its part of our cultural calendar. Which i suppose the Open championship(golf) isn't really. It doesn't attract the non players/regular fans like Wimbledon does.

Better event and why? Me. Tennis. Late August/Early Septemeber. College and Pro Football is right around the corner. Atmosphere of night time play in New York under the ligths. Weather is slowly starting to change a little cooler. Great atmosphere. My favorite of the 'Slams'. 1-0 Tennis. Go! Its hard to say which is the better event as it depends on which of the two sports you really like. For me personally its a draw as I like both.

Let's really get into the Dark State of things here...
The USGA can't for the life of them get out of their own f'n way. Course selections, course set ups, rules & regulations... those in the know realize it's become an annual conversation. I do love that the US Open isn't afraid of travelling around all corners of America, except they still seem to overreach looking for the mythic golf courses that really are all hype.
I will give that the US Open golf is the most challenging tourney of the entire year, bar none. Alas, it seems to invite more luck also because of that.
US Open tennis is a 2 week end of summer virtual party. Late nights, arguably the most boisterous crowds on tour, + skill usually pays off. I like tennis grand slams being simultaneously ATP & WTA. That usually gives ample storylines.

Tennis. Because people play golf in the other one. How many seconds is the ball actually moving over the course of 72 holes?

my mom had 'carpal tunnel' and had to get surgery from typing and she was a secretary for 50 years - is that a sport That is work, but work can be harder to your body than sport... maybe i am being a little ignorant. i mean - look at Tiger Woods and how he fell off the face of the earth. not a RB in the NFL who's life expectancy is like 5-7 years tops hitting the hole getting annihilated by guys twice his size not a PG like Allen Iverson driving down the lane getting clotheslined for 82 games a year by guys twice his size not a small lil Center in hockey like Claude Girioux getting his head taken off the ice by defenseman for years........... but Tiger had to pick up a club and swing it and hit a pea to try to get it in a 'hole'. ok wait - but this is about Tennis Vs. Golf. well - Tennis they're running around like madman for hours - sometimes 5 sets continuously hitting a ball at a rapid pace with all their force all while trying to continue to focus and gain an advantage on their opponent only a few feet away........... and golf - well - you get to scream at your caddie as he carries your bags

I have never played golf in my live - mini-golf aside - and I can cared about it during the Ryder cup. But since the UK is no longer part of Europe, there is also no longer a European team...out is out. And since it is the US vs UK from now on, I also no longer care about the Ryder cup.
