Scottish football enjoyed an increase in attendances at league matches of over 12% last season. The total number of fans attending Scottish Professional Football League games, including play-offs, was up to 4,267,467 from 3,804,342 in 2015-16. It is the first time attendances have topped the four million mark since the 2008-09 campaign (4,252,212). "These figures are hugely encouraging," said SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster. "It is testament both to the hard work of clubs in attracting people to games as well as the commitment and passion of supporters of all 42 clubs. "There is already a great level of excitement ahead of SPFL season 2017-18 with many of our clubs executing some very creative season ticket marketing campaigns to help attract even more fans to attend matches regularly. "All of this sends out a very positive message and provides a great platform to improve the overall profile and health of Scottish football." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40270965

It's not specific enough, Captain. I'm hoping more fans are turning up at Ross County etc and not just Celtic and Aberdeen/Rangers/Hibs, eh? I'm glad, though. The progress of international Scottish football depends partly on the domestic scene, and a 12.5% increase in crowd attendance alone can only be encouraging, what? I am no expert on Scottish football, but neither, unlike many, do I dismiss it out of hand. I enjoyed a good few games last season, in the leagues and the cups.

I bet Celtic was up across the board when it looked like they were on for an unbeaten season - people wanted to be part of it.

Celtic's glory season must have had an impact on that and I would guess the play-off system has, as well and despite their team's poor form, the Zombies" fans fill Ibrox for most home games.
But a more intelligent attitude by the police in some cities and towns would improve attendances even more. ie. A game between St Johnstone and Celtic in Perth would be a sell-out you might imagine. Not so and last season there were huge gaps in the areas reserved for home fans, who didn't turn up, for reasons that I'm not aware off. Celtic could have filled the stadium themselves but the police refused to allow seats in the home areas to be sold to the away fans, who have an excellent record of behaviour when the team play away. This happened in other grounds as well, and listening to commentator, Ian Crocker trying to build the match up, as one of the "games of the season" was at odds with TV pictures of empty sears in the areas allocated to home fans. What would happen if Celtic were to meet Stranraer in a Cup Final at Hampden ?
Allowing visiting fans to take up unused/unsold seats in the home areas has to be reconsidered..

"I've said it before, both IRL and on the net, but it has be said again - decent Celtic fans, particularly those living somewhere nice like Canterbury" But Canterbury just voted Labour for the first time ever last week! Yeah, I suppose you're right about away OF fans - they can't really be trusted to mix in peaceably with the home fans. The pro-IRA garbage still loudly proclaimed by many Celtic away fans is unforgivable, but the SFA seems content just to ignore it.

do hooligans or political activists(nice word for some sects in Scottish football) care about the results - they just want the soap box or in the first instance attention.
