I think I know why JJ abrams films have appeals to the new fans and yet pissed off the old ones:
Something occurred to me when I saw Star Trek into darkness as couple times
In ST Into Darkness : Carol mentioned her father was developing a ship with "
Advanced Warp capabilities"Shortly later Khan said "
Dreadnought class. 2 times the size, 3 x the speed, advanced warp capabilities"
Thats all the say. they didnt say WHY it is so advanced, or what makes it advanced or exactly how fast it can go( Warp 9.99999 old scale or something)
I didnt see much, if any technobabble
The scene when they had transwarp beaming( both of the first 2 films)- nothing it said on how it works- no explanation why or how( special power source, crystals, etc) Once again- no technobabble.
Heres my thought The Star Trek reboot movies........ are scifi movies...... for complete idiots.
Its like those Dummies book. JJ Abrams made "
Its Star Trek for Dummies"
More action, better looking cast, more romance, lense flares to impress the retarded millennials, and little to zero technobabble( thats the key there)
technobabble was find for the geeks who understood science. Old trekkkies know how fast Warp 1 is. or how fast Warp 3 is compared to Warp 1
They know what sublight speed, or even tachyons, No technobabble here. Just mindless action in a Star Trek universe.
I understand Chief O'brien in DS9 and La Forge in TNG went WAAAAAAAY overboard in his technobabble(- so much that even geeks were confused-
example:
but they didnt offer anything to these films. That is what turns people off and helps appeal the cattle-like-masses looking for cool explosions
This is also why I believe that the films will get old because they wont keep fans. They can make new ones but to keep them? you need to be a special geek to truly appreciate the Star trek universe
I have tons of other examples- more to come.....
Thoughts?
