2nd worst baseball announcer (Yes, I'm talking about you, Suzyn Waldman). Not because he's a "homer" (most are), but its grating voice, his smug attitude and those endless, inane catchphrases. I avoid Pale Hose TV and Yanks radio like the plague.

While I like a homer announcer and think it is only natural for an announcer to root for the team they call for, Hawk is annoying with his constant bitching and moaning and his unbearable nostalgia for the "good old days" when he played and his hatred of modern day baseball stats and the like. I wonder if they are forcing him out because of the mass dislike of him from fans.

Am I the only one here who likes the Hawk? It seems that way; yeah okay he's a homer, but at least he's colourful and passionate unlike a lot of baseball announcers today.

Once again, I don't care if he's a homer. He's driven those idiotic catchphrases into the ground. If I never hear "he gone" or "you can put in on the board... YES" shit again, it will be too soon. He pisses and moans about every call that goes against Chicago. A lot of announcers have been with their team longer than Hawk, Denny Matthews, Mike Shannon, Duane Kuiper, Ray Fosse, Bert Blyleven etc, and they manager to be objective. Being a homer is one thing, being a shill is another

It's one thing to be a homer. It's another to outdo all the others to the point of infuriating obnoxiousness.

It's one thing to be a homer. It's another to outdo all the others to the point of infuriating obnoxiousness. To be fair, Buck Martinez has been doing 'Get up ball, get up!' for Jays' HRs the past few years now. Of course he's not being an asshat about it like Hawk. Dan Shulman, ESPN's ace, has been doing a few dozen Jays games these past couple years also - he's not being homer about it, even though he lives here (Thornhill ON, same town as me & Andrew Wiggins lols).

I agree wholeheartedly. Paul Allen, the Vikings announcer, is the biggest homer there is and I love him like a brother.

i'd much rather listen local guys than espn, fox.
bias is good. when coaching a hoops team, i learn more about my players from the other coach, his scout, what he tries to take away. keeps my bias in-check.

I know that you feel different if the homer is on your side. I'm sure Bruins fans don't have the same feeling about this call that I do
But, like mars and his Vikes announcer, I think the world of Rick Jeanneret.
And Hawk is better than John Sterling
No he's not. I take that back. They both suck!

All hometown announcers are biased to some degree, somebody here mentioned my man Buck Martinez who if you listen to him long enough will irritate you with his homerism. MERCY show some love for the Hawk...
