The Thing 1982 is one of my favorite sci-fi/horror films. A perfect 10/10. While the 2011 version did not impress me one bit, and I gave it a very generous 5/10. If I was to re-watch the 2011 version as of today, it might fall down to a 4/10.

The Thing (1982) is the greatest film ever 9.9/10 The Thing (2011) I thought it was pretty decent. Similarities to the earlier film were unavoidable but its was still at least a 7.5/10
The Thing From Another World - as a standalone film is a 8/10 on a good day (watched it recently, the Hawksian dialogue didn't really work for me the way it does in his comedies). As an adaptation of the original story, it is one of the worst ever. Horrendous.

Obviously the original was epic. The 2011 version was ok but the ending credits and how they tied it into the original was pretty darn spot on. Best part of the movie.

The Thing 1982 is a timeless classic, with what is arguably some of the best special effects in movie history. Some scenes were very intense and frightening, in particular the dog kennel sequence.
As for the 2011 version, just another typical CGI crapfest.

The Thing (1982).... classic!
The Thing (2011).... not a classic...... but I'm still able to enjoy it, for what it's worth.

I liked them both but I can rewatch and quote from 82 in a way I would never with 11.

The '82 film is my # 1 favorite of all time.
The '11 film is okay, but it just doesn't compare.

In the 2011 Prequel, I absolutely love the Ice Block-Thing. I thought that that Monster (and the way that they filmed it) was Freaking Awesome!

I know the original is a great movie, I could never really embrace it. I like the 2011 movie a lot.

The original is a masterpiece in suspense, dread, and practical effects with engrossing characters.
The 2011, not so much. It's got one or two good moments, but it's too often overshadowed by shoddy CGI, a complete 180 from what made the original so visceral.
