Excellent finale, although I think "Chicanery" goes down as the best of the season for me. But is it coming back for season 4? No word on renewal yet as far as I know.

It was either Gilligan or Gould that said, it's not a matter of "if" it gets renewed, but "when".

No idea what sort of numbers it's getting but the quality is fantastic, nearing Breaking Bad levels imo. I'd be astounded if it wasn't renewed.

It will get renewed. It's AMC's only quality program as well as brilliantly written and acted. What's not to renew?
To illustrate how perfect the writing and acting is you need look no further than Chuck. In his last conversation with his brother he proves himself even more of an asshole than ever and utterly irredeemable and yet despite that I almost felt a shred of pity for him as he tore his home apart.

I beg to differ. It seems that the writers are endlessly rehashing tired old formula 1. Sol gets a chance to make some serious $ (S1-Kellermans' stash; S2- Davis&Maine; S3 - Forcing Sandpiper settlement. A chance, I might add, any sane person would kill for). 2. His extremely convoluted ethics code gets the best of him. 3. Back to square one. 4. ... 5. PROFIT!!!

He's not at the BrBa version of Saul...yet, but he's inching his way towards it. All-in-all, with the Kim, Nacho/Hector/Gus and Chuck storylines of the finale, I thought it was a really good episode, IMO.

But, as you've pointed out, supporting characters provide the lion's share of entertainment value.

I've never seen "Breaking Bad" (yet), but I've been watching "Saul" from the beginning. It's always interesting watching "Talking Saul" because everyone's so fixated on how this all leads to the Saul we know. Well, I don't know that Saul, but I love the series anyway!!

I'm enjoying it. It's not the 'popcorn ride' "Breaking Bad" was, but? Who says it has to be?

I'm enjoying it. It's not the 'popcorn ride' "Breaking Bad" was, but? Who says it has to be? What do you mean by "popcorn ride"? "Breaking Bad" had an 'action/adventure' element to it, sort of like Spielberg's "Raiders" flicks. Which, of itself, was a 'throwback' to the old "Flash Gordon" type 'serials' of the 30's and 40's. Go to the theater, grab a bag of popcorn, and get the result of last weeks cliffhanger, only to get another one for next week. IMO, it's really what sets "Breaking Bad" apart from most television. It worked as a 'character study', an 'ensemble piece', and a relatively mindless 'action flick' all rolled into one. Now, you may disagree with the mindless part, but I know a few friends who aren't 'movie geeks', etc, who were incapable of sympathizing with anyone other than Walter. (<----which is not the way the show was written) They enjoyed watching Walt 'take care of all comers', regardless of the other characters 'feelings', 'commitments', etc. They just enjoyed 'the popcorn ride'.

I might be one of them, then. But I enjoyed show's realism the most (apart from hydrofluoric acid bit, of course, you use lye to dispose of the bodies). The characters had very realistic motivations and acted logically (except those moments they were overcome by emotions). Walt's ultimate problem was pride and indecision.

Breaking Bad was serious, funny, tragic, heroic, and exciting, all at the same time. Better Call Saul is more of a 'slow burn' type show. It's a bit more.... deliberate.Breaking Bad was also deliberate, but in BCS? The deliberate part is more central to the overall tone of the show. IMO. That's my take, anyway.
