As long as it's a 1-season mini-series directly based on the comics, then it's fine.

As long as it's a 1-season mini-series directly based on the comics, then it's fine. ............like that would ever actually happen. HBO needs something to fill the time between Game of Thrones and whenever they start the GoT spin-off series. it's probably going to be a 3-4 season series spanning from The Minutemen, tinkering with Before Watchmen run, and of course Watchmen, the latter probably being the first season, like a connected anthology type series. but they should really put their full effort into adapting Watchmen.

personally I'm "down," but I'm not at all familiar with Lindelof's series. I'm aware of Lost and The Leftovers, the former in a love/hate relationship, the latter very well received, and of course I'm well aware that shares the same "mystery box" fascination that JJ has.....which probably isn't the best.
but if The Leftovers is anywhere as good as people say it is, then yeah sure.........and I wouldn't be surprised if they gave a few episodes to James Mangold.

HBO in "Preliminary Discussions" for 'Watchmen' TV Series
"Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place," said HBO in a statement Thursday.
As first reported by Collider, Zack Snyder — who directed the 2009 feature film based on Alan Moore's beloved graphic novel — is attached to the HBO incarnation. The potential HBO take hails from Warner Bros. Television, where comics powerhouse DC Comics is housed.
No additional information was provided and it's unclear if HBO's take is a reboot, remake or prequel, like the 2012's comic series Before Watchmen.
First published in 1986 and collected in 1987, Watchmen was created by Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons and colorist John Higgins. The series is included as one of the 100 best novels from Time magazine.
Snyder adapted the comic and brought the title's "Minutemen" crime fighters to the big screen in 2009 with Jackie Earle Haley, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson starring. The film, produced by Warner Bros. Pictures with a $130 million production budget, grossed a disappointing $107.5 million domestically and $185.3 million worldwide.
A Watchmen TV series at HBO would put the premium cable network in the comics business. AMC has found major success with The Walking Dead and will launch controversial comic Preacher in 2016. The CW and Fox have also proven successful with DC fare including The Flash, Arrow and Gotham, while CBS this month will join the game with Supergirl. ABC, meanwhile, has two Marvel series in Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter.

I guess I have to read the graphic novel and watch the movie then.

I honestly don't see the point.
The movie was perfectly executed and is the definitive version. Why would I want to watch a TV show about it?

Well, many feel the film was a superficial interpretation of the novel, that the director and writer(s) missed the point and focused on the wrong aspects of what Watchmen was about, so a series in theory would give you more time with characters, plots, themes, etc. Also, a lot of people really miss the squid monster.

maybe they expand beyond the graphic novel there has been decent shows after good movies , like Fargo, Hanniba,l Bates Motel. But yeah, i don't see a point where there other material that don't adaptations yet.

Great answer. Maybe I'll check it out. Thank you actually, I honestly didn't know there was a feeling that the point was missed.

I guess I have to read the graphic novel and watch the movie then. Do it! I recommend reading the mini-series first. Yyes, it is a mini-series, not a graphic novel, the collected works are called a trade paperback, but DC wants it to be called a graphic novel so it feel more important than a mere comic book. Both the mini-series and the film are excellent, each do a great job interpreting the material. As for the new HBO show, I'm on the fence. I wasn't happy when DC announced the Before Watchmen mini-series, but I ended up really enjoying them. So a definite wait-and-see approach for me.

i don't believe anything is going to get better than Snyder's attempt. they should leave it be.

"Far better"? I don't know about that. It has certainly caught up as a form of entertainment, but there is still plenty of trash on TV: every reality show, daytime talk shows (like Jerry Springer) and the Kardashians are prime examples.
