I saw and enjoyed it...Hats off to Megan, Kate Mara (the film Megan) and that dog Rex, and the military (and our non-military patriots who TRULY support our country!)

It seemed like a solid example of those inspirational feel-good crowd pleasers.

It seemed like a solid example of those inspirational feel-good crowd pleasers. I'm hoping it comes to my theater soon. I'm really interested in seeing it, and the fact it's based on a true story makes that much more intriguing to me..

I saw and enjoyed it...Hats off to Megan, Kate Mara (the film Megan) and that dog Rex, and the military (and our non-military patriots who TRULY support our country!) I enjoyed it too, and I feel that Megan Leavy is a "pretty good/good" film, undermined only by a poor, Disney-style, overly sentimental score for a film that is otherwise slightly sentimental yet restrained in that regard. Part of what I like about it, though, is that the movie is not a rah-rah, wave-the-flag, support-the-troops cliché-fest. There is some nuance, tension, and ambivalence to the film, whether with regard to the military bureaucracy or the consequences of combat. Although not remotely on the same level as a film, it broadly broaches some of the same issues that American Sniper did (and despite both liberal and conservative caricatures of that movie, American Sniper was anything but rah-rah patriotic propaganda). In short, Megan Leavy could have constituted a simplistically patriotic Disney-style crowd-pleaser, but it is more than that. The filmmakers made a real effort to remain true to the complexities of the material—except for whoever was in charge of the music. Kate Mara is outstanding as the eponymous character—not at all self-conscious and very authentic.
