I'd just like to take this time to appreciate how quickly everyone forgot about Kobe Bryant. Kind of says it all, doesn't it? LeBron is clearly the best player of the post-Jordan generation. I hate the Lakers and I've never been a LeBron fan, but how funny would it be for him to go to LA and win a few more titles? How will Kobe feel, locked in his musecage, with LeBron as the toast of the town?

Interesting topic/question.
I say '2'. In all likelihood L.A. but who knows.
I think he's as good as gone.
He did what he needed to do to 'redeem' himself and bring Cleveland a title.
He owes them nothing now.
He's gone.

The contracts for Lebron, D-Wade and Melo align, and would allow all three of them to sign with the same team, in the summer of 2018, if they so choose.
They could even sign for the 10 year veteran's minimum salary, which will be $2,822,328 in 2018.
Anybody else think this is plausible / possible?
Banana boat Clippers, maybe?
( if CP3 is still there )

Kobe wasn't even the best player on his team in their 3-peat years. That team was built around Shaq, one of the most dominant players in the history of basketball. Shaq went on to the eastern conference finals in 05 while Kobe's Lakers missed the playoffs! In 06 Shaq would win a title with one of the worst supporting casts I've ever seen beyond Wade, while Kobe stopped trying in game 7 as the Lakers were eliminated by Phoenix in the first round. Kobe was obsessed with being called the alpha dog, not with living up to the responsibility that came with it. Kobe wanted to be called the best, Michael Jordan didn't want anyone to be able to say they were better than him. It's a seemingly subtle yet enormous difference in mindset, it really is. Fast forward a few years where Kobe is handed another HOF center among other roster upgrades and the media started talking about how Kobe 'finally won on his own.' What a joke. Kobe Bryant had a monster final game for an irrelevant team going nowhere, because he took 50 shots. Kobe Bryant was always going to take 50 shots in his final game. It didn't matter that it meant nothing, the story would be about how many points he put up. He made sure the story was about him. That's Kobe's career in a nutshell. LeBron is just as smug as Kobe in my opinion, but LeBron realizes he isn't the only one on the court. The irony is that people criticize LeBron for understanding one man alone can't win a championship. I could imagine LeBron instinctively passing the ball to a teammate for the final shot in LeBron's farewell game. Kobe Bryant was always going to take 50 shots in his final game. Always.

I think Shaq is arguably the greatest '5' of all-time. That opinion gets a lot of heat because I never saw Wilt or Russell play and it seems disrespectful to Hakeem and Kareem. Who was the other 'HOF' '5' that Kobe got to play with? LeBron is smug - smug but smart - realizes he needs to surround himself with other stars - Kobe? It was all about 'Him'. LeBron > Kobe - but - Kobe is an enigma to me - he's that Alpha that you ask yourself 'what if' - what if he played with Bosh and Wade - what if he played with an Irving and Love. Nope it was all about 'Kobe'. Don't like the guy myself. People in Philly can't stand him and he's from this area. Smugness at it's finest. LeBron is a more passive aggressive (as another poster pointed out) Mary and 'skirt' but knows how to politic.

One of the best big men in the league for most of his career, carried an average Memphis team for years before going to LA.

You might want to look up his stats and accolades before laughing too hard. 20,000 points; 10,500+ rebounds; 2-time NBA Champion (and not as some role player on the end of the bench, as a major contributor); NBA Rookie of the Year; 2006 FIBA World Cup MVP; two Olympic silver medals and a bronze; and a ton of accolades from the Spanish League as well (keep in mind it's the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame). He's going in, dude. Yao Ming is a HOF big man and he doesn't have half the resume.
