If you don't have Facebook here is the current events quiz in my latest update. You haven't been asked to take an internet survey or test in three whole days? At least something is right in the world.
Your luck just ran out though. I'm asking you to take an interent test of your knowledge of current events.
It's a simple text only server side script that won't use as much data, air or otherwise, as other surveys or tests with graphics. No scripts run client side (on your device) and you can prove that by turning scripts off.
I won't know which set of answers is yours unless you identify yourself on the Opinion and Editorial page in the same browser session as you take the test. After the test and you get the right answers, there will be a link to the Opinion and Editorial page.Take a TestTopics include but are not limited to same sex marriage, right and wrong, Bible quotes, Jihad, proper roles of religion as compared to government, proper roles of religion as compared to science.

I got 50%. I don't think that too bad seeing how rigged the quiz was. 😉

I got 50%. I don't think that's too bad seeing how rigged the quiz was. 😉 That is an excellent score. It is a very difficult test even before you count what biases there might be. Removing my biases is a work in progress. I don't know which set of answers is yours unless you tell me in the same internet browser session that you take the test on the Opinion and Editorial page recommended for criticizing the test. You didn't do that. So far only one person got 50% so I guess that could be you. It appears that person missed the question about the march from Selma to Montgomery. People outside the United States are not likely to know that one. The march was in 1965 and hasn't been in the news outside the United States much lately has it? The guy who is the right answer is in the news a lot here lately, but not for his being in the march. It is sometimes mentioned he was injured in the march as part of his identifying traits. I actually tried to give a break to atheists on the question about right and wrong. I'm sorry that one might still be problematic. Although each person who takes the test gets the same questions and the same set of answer choices, they are not in the same order. The questions are presented in random order and the answer choices are also presented in random order. That's to make it difficult to "memorize" answers like "the answer to #4 is C." You would have to write out the question and the answer.

I read up to this question:
Why do people support the legalization of marijuana?
It appears to have no effect on the performance of unskilled laborers if used in a timely manner.
No one cares anymore.
Its quality is more stable than alternatives.
It will reduce tax revenues.
Then I thought 'This is stupid' and stopped reading.

Most of the questions do not have a perfect answer. It can be difficult to pick the "best" from a set of imperfect answers. I sympathize. The great part about this quiz though is that you can criticize it. Had you submitted a set of answers you would have been given a link to the Opinion and Editorial page where you could write your own "better" answer. Or you could write your own better answer here. Imagine the fun.

The highest score so far is 70% and that might be scaring people away who are accustomed to getting 100% on their tests. This is not like the tests you take in school. It is more about making you think than finding out what you already have. It is not designed for you to prepare for the test. If you did that most of you would get 100%. Where did OldSamVimes go? If you're going to complain it can be more effective if you actually offer something better. He didn't like the test, especially the question about marijuana. Did he write his own question and answers? No. I explained that there weren't any perfect answers on most of the test questions and writing better ones is something he should try. Still he did not. I could write answers that are more favorable to marijuana users. What? do I have to do everything around here? I don't help marijuana users because they don't need my advocacy, or shouldn't. For example I did not give the choice of "policing marijuana abuse is an inefficient use of police hours." Given that localities can only afford a limited number of police hours, those hours might be better spent on other problems. However that same argument was used against seat belt laws and the police just spent their time on other things and only ticketed people for seat belt violations if they stopped them for something else or the offense otherwise became obvious without looking for it. I want the test difficult, but not that difficult. Another answer choice might have been, "because it's nobody's d___ business what other people smoke," since humorous answers are allowed. Again, that would be advocating in an irresponsible and confusing way. Although marijuana is not as harmful as heroin or explosives, there are problems with its use.

Where did I go?
I guess I don't like quizzes and I had other stuff to do.
Hey, at least I clicked the link.

I noticed how slanted the questions were, as if to solicit pro ultra right wing responses.

I got 50%. What does it mean? It means I need to go back to quiz writing school. Thanks, these responses are helping me see how people think and I might get better at this one day. I'm making two changes based on your responses. Three people got 50%, but only one today, so I guess that's you. 1 "Its quality is more stable than alternatives" will now be "Its quality is more stable than similar alternatives." I thought people would assume "similar" with alternatives. I think it will be more fair to write that in. 2 "Which of these is the best way to tell whether a person is a terrorist" will now be "Which of these is the best way to tell that a person is a terrorist" I had thought that one was too easy, but kept it for the joke. The change makes it even easier. The question about the Selma march is not fair to people outside the United States but that will have to wait till I get a whole new set of questions. What I'm trying to do here is make a test that makes you think. If I made the answers too clear, people would just learn answers without thinking them through. Generally in school, tests are more clear to be "fair," but they want you thinking on your own too.

I noticed how slanted the questions were, as if to solicit pro ultra right wing responses. I noticed you did not recommend any specific changes. When you get your test results you are asked to comment and are provided a comment box that holds well over 2k characters.

There goes my theory you're an expert on quizzes. That makes two of us not too expert on quizzes. Another "mama bear" had some complaints. That's okay, I'm sure you're an expert on several other things. I might learn basket weaving later myself. Maybe I'll get really good at quizzes with practice. At one time you were the funniest person here. You are a good sport that way.

I didn't recommend changes because the entire quiz had slanted questions. I'm sorry to be so much trouble. Perhaps you'd like to try fixing just one question.

I got 30% and feel a bit ashamed. Did I really agree with you on *three whole answers*? OMG...

I got 50% and I am never taking that pointless quiz again. Believe me, I sympathize. In school when there are bad grades on tests it's probably more the student's fault than the teacher's. Sometimes though it might be the way the questions were worded and more than usual the teacher's fault. This is not the same situation though. There has not been any direct conversation of the problems between me and the people taking the test. It asks for conclusions about the "news out there" that have not yet been made in the news out there. It is especially difficult to make such a test "fair." It is also especially difficult to take such a test. I'm not going to do as well on this end as teacher's would in classroom situations. So I take your low scores as more my fault than teachers would. But it does provide me a large set of data with which to improve my communication skills. By observing which wrong answers people chose I can see how the wording might be to blame and avoid those problems in the future. I wish everyone could improve their writing this way. I spend more time thinking about this than most people do. As you can see here. How Wording Effects Polls

Oh you're such a wit. The test is what you would expect from a Facebook quiz and I couldn't even really understand several of the options.
