Today I watched a film called The Gay Dog (1954), whose title has a very different meaning these days.
Can anyone name any other films for which the name of the film is dated?

Period of Adjustment (1962) is a film title straight out the early 1930's!

The Fuller Brush Man (1948) & The Fuller Brush Girl (1950) The Fuller Brush man used to stop regularly at my house. Mom ALWAYS seemed to need a new vegetable brush or a hair brush. Combs were given free as a thank you. We got a small, rather soft, brush that my dad used to scrub the dirt off of my little paws. We called it "the tickle brush" because it did ! I still have it and it still tickles ! ahhhh ... memories that a simple film title can bring flooding back.

Remember the fancy leather case that opened and folded out like six different ways into an elaborate display? I still have one of their hair brushes that's probably 60 years old; the bristles look like new and have outlasted my hair by a decade. Also a cunning little brush designed specifically for cleaning those combs. My mother was an Avon Lady for about ten years, but to the best of my knowledge, no one ever made a movie about them.

I've never seen it as far as I can recall, but there was a 1950 film called The Milkman that teamed Jimmy Durante and Donald O'Connor. Point of trivia: shortly after moving to MGM with the advent of talkies, Buster Keaton was teamed with Durante in several films. Seven years after working with Durante The Milkman, O'Connor starred in The Buster Keaton Story.

Doghouse6Dunno about The Avon Story but I know there as a documentary on PBS about the Tupperware lady and her trials and tribulations. The mom in Edward Scissorhands sold something door to door didn't she ? Was it Avon ? I very vaguely remember the Fuller Brush case. It was soooo long ago. I remember the salesman being really nice and that he made a point of remembering my name and talking to me more than just the standard of the time "What do you wnt to be when you grow up ?" <ugh, I hated that !> The comb cleaning brush was like a tiny toothbrush ? (Poor Dacron had no idea what he was starting here, eh ?) Matthew the Swordsman

It made the internal culture of that company look a tad creepy. I actually attended a Tupperware party in the late '70s (thrown by some friends who like "themed" parties and thought it would provide some "retro" fun; it did, and I bought some stuff too). Don't really remember Edward Scissorhands well enough. The bristles of the comb cleaning brush are arranged cylindrically, about an inch in diameter and length, looking rather like a stubby pipe cleaner on steroids at the end of a handle.

Howzabout Ten Cents A Dance (1931)? Or ten cents for anything, for that matter.
Or Dial M For Murder? I still say "dial" even though I've been pushing buttons for over 40 years, because that's the terminology I grew up with. But I honestly don't know: do those raised entirely in the touch tone or mobile age say "dial?"
And how 'bout The Anderson Tapes (1971)? (Andersons are obsolete, aren't they?)

And speaking of telephoning...
Call Northside 777 (1948) BUtterfield 8 (1960) (employing the proper capitalization of a lettered prefix)

Destination Moon (1950)
I was looking for an old title with "typewriter" in it but found numerous recent titles with the word. Same with "co-ed".

Dianne Wiest in Edward Scissorhands (1990) played an Avon Lady, she calls on Vincent Price's character and discovers Edward Scissorhands.

I could name a few blaxploitation titles here, but I can't risk banishment. What were they thinking back then?
You've Got Mail, the 90's remake of The Shop Around the Corner, just screams AOL to me, which ain't what it used to be.
