If this alliance helps people in Afghanistan and pisses off Saudi-Arabia, it may be a good thing.

If this alliance helps people in Afghanistan and pisses off Saudi-Arabia, it may be a good thing. The only problem is that a of late Iran is also turning into as dubious country as Saudia. Not to forget the terrorist country Pakistan is key player of this alliance. That said, I do believe China will kick these countries sooner than later if these countries displease China.

An alliance? What a military alliance? Still no actual threat to the US.

Any truth in my OP? It seems that any such coalition would be fundamentally unstable since the participants you listed have little in the way of common interests. China has its own Muslim problem in Xinjiang and Russia has something similar in Chechnia and Dagestan. Pakistan is a Sunni military dictatorship while Iran is a Shiite theocracy. From my experience Shiite consider Sunnis to be valid Muslims with certain incorrect ideas. Sunnis, however, do not really consider Shiites to be true Muslims though they reluctantly say otherwise in official statements. The only factor which China and Russia both hold dear is that North Korea, distasteful as it is, must not be destroyed by the USA. Iran and Pakistan both seem to support Qatar in its rift with its Arab neighbors But nobody in Pakistan will fight to the death for the Emir in Doha. I could visualize Iranian soldiers being sent to Qatar and Sunni Turkey has already done that. There does seem to be an effective Russian-Iranian alignment. Putin appears to be very understanding when it comes to Iran's nuclear ambitions. Both Russia and Iran vigorously support Bashar Assad in Syria. If that rapprochement extends to other issues I'll be very surprised. Iran and Russia are just too different. BY TOM O'CONNOR ON 6/16/17 AT 5:34 PM Yes, I totally agree with you. This alliance will probably not live long or may be China and Russia will remain allies in the long run. I am quite astonished that China literally silences their Muslims by power and force and yet Muslim community don't dare to speak against them. I think it's more a reflection of needs of countries. Alliance will Pakistan and Iran will probably open the trade routes for China. Also, recently America has started calling out Pakistan for its actions so Pakistan knows that its friendship with America may not live long. The recent improvement of relations between India and America has annoyed both China and Russia. Mainly China to be honest.

The recent improvement of relations between India and America has annoyed both China and Russia. Mainly China to be honest. Concerning the Pakistanis, they do seem to have substantial forces in the Persian Gulf area already. According to GlobalSecurity.org only 30% of the Qatari Army are from Qatari citizens. The rest come from a variety of other countries and it appears that Pakistani soldiers are a major component. In the 1991 Gulf War the Qatari and KSA forces reacted to an Iraqi incursion with most of the fighting done by Pakistanis. www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/gulf/qatar-army.htmI believe that there are other Pakistani soldiers in all the Gulf Emirates. It's understood that these troops are mercenaries and they're in it for the money and not to advance any ideological aims. They're certainly more reliable than possible recruits from Arab countries like Egypt or Sudan.
