That's a great video. Thanks for posting it. Seems like such a sane time - no Trump, no ISIS, no Russia investigation, everyone was in the closet. Peaceful.

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing. At about the 1:16 mark there is a boy standing with his mom (presumably). His right foot is canted over. I did and still do the same thing when I'm standing still. Made me laugh.

I'm not sure why that last remark was necessary. In spite of appearances, we're looking at a time when anyone could be imprisoned for merely being homosexual, and with no gender, racial, religious, ethnic or sexual equality, or health, environmental or occupational safety standards. Indeed, the very year of that film, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire right in that city claimed the lives of 146 workers. It may have been peaceful for white, Christian, straight, affluent males, but with all those injustices, it's hard to imagine people coming out of the closet as any kind of factor that might have threatened peaceful public order, and seems an odd thing to single out. I can go along with you this far: much of what can be observed in Washington D.C. could be considered among the greatest threats to peace and public order in over 40 years.

That last comment wasn't necessary, just my poor attempt at humor. I was trying to say that the peaceful mood was covering up a lot of injustice.

I recall we had a couple of exchanges about something or other a month or so back and, as now, you were gracious and honest. So I appreciate the clarification and will keep that in mind, endeavoring in future to curb any tendencies to jump too quickly onto my high horse. Cheers.

Thanks very interesting! Also that it was made by a Swedish company, shooting for, I guess a Swedish audience, to see an exotic location like New York.

Some singular images indeed. Note the women's fashions - big, fashionable hats and often holding stylish umbrellas overhead on sunny days. Note the young boys nearly all of whom are clad in knickerbockers. The architecture is often quite amazing to behold (I wonder how many of those old buildings still survive?). I love the blend of old-style horse-and-carriage transportation alongside "new" automobiles and street cars. The family car being driven by a chauffeur - note the poor girl in the front seat who seems to be suffering either a bad headache, or is just totally bored. lol Anyway, quite a trip down memory lane. We're lucky these old film stocks have been preserved and restored.

Look at all those dead people........... Long dead, to be sure, but notice how they all come so very alive thanks to film? Consider this video "the day of the living dead."

We're lucky these old film stocks have been preserved and restored. I also noticed the car motoring (I think that was the term used back then) behind this one tries to pass the horse drawn wagon and is almost taken out by a street car. Notice how the driver quickly maneuvers back behind the wagon. It's beautiful footage of a time long past. I often think that besides the 1950's this is the era (early 20th century) I would most like to visit. Before WW1 there was a great deal of technological and scientific progress going on as well as romanticism for the Ancient Greek and Roman past (as evident in the architecture).
