Went to store for a steak. They had two in same package for sale. So I thought I would try an experiment. Both steaks were from the same cut and same thickness.
First day I made steak on GAS grill and next day made other steak on CHARCOAL grill. Charcoal wins by a slim margin. Here is why:
Don't get me wrong the steak on gas grill was great. And the convenience of the gas grill gained points. But the steak on the charcoal grill tasted better. More work and waiting time but to me the bottom line is the taste. So by a slim margin the charcoal grill wins.
So if we are having many people over it is the gas grill for the convenience. But if it is just me and my wife, or just one other couple it will be the charcoal grill.
Your thoughts on which you like better and why.

I've never owned a gas grill, always used charcoal, so I have no way of legitimately claiming which one I prefer. However, I've heard a fair amount of other people corroborate your claim. I suppose a gas grill would be nice to own, for the convenience factor you speak of, but I don't do nearly enough grilling to warrant making that purchase. So for now, I'm just sticking with my little charcoal grill (I use a small Smokey Joe grill).

Also have never had a gas grill. Keep thinking I might get one. If and when my gas grill quits working this is what I am buying. That way we have the best of both worlds when it comes to grilling. People that likes the taste of gas grills can use the right side and the people who like the taste of charcoal can use the left side. The gas/charcoal grill I pictured will set you back about $200 dollars. For years of grilling I think that is very reasonable.
