"They came. They shopped. They saved the world!"While facing the serious threat of mankind finally getting ready to meet the exact same destiny as the dinosaurs, one would think that most people were to find themselves in a rather desperate situation, instead it seems like most folks are far too busy getting ready for the ultimate arrival of the comet party, which is going to be a blast. Turns out that the main party guest, accidentally wipes out most of the human species, and now the humans fate suddenly lies in the hands of a couple of snotty valley girls, far more interested in shopping and fashion trends. The beautiful and very talented Catherine Mary Stewart shares the lead with b-movie scream queen, Kelli Maroney in this highly enjoyable horror/sci-fi film that along with Night of the Creeps (1986) stands among as one of the best movies of the 80s to combine sci-fi with horror and action/comedy. Not really sure why Catherine's film career did not take off more, as she was stunning in movies like The Last Starfighter (1984), Mischief (1985), Weekend at Bernie's (1989) and of course in this one too, were I first saw her and those beautiful big eyes along with that puffy, huge 80s hair, which made me a fan from day one. Kelli Maroney on the other hand become quite a b-movie scream queen, and I certainly enjoyed her in another funny horror comedy, Chopping Mall (1986) were she was followed by a couple of other 80s scream queens, such as Barbara Crampton and Suzee Slater. Anyway, Night of the Comet is a great ride, one that comes with a nice atmosphere and a very good soundtrack.

It felt more like an 80s music video than a film to me. The soundtrack I liked. The movie not so much.

I loved this movie as a kid. I remember seeing it late one night on showtime in the 90s and I never knew the name of it. But they would always play it at like 10 or 11 at night. Took me years to find the name afterwards.

I liked almost everything about the movie, everything except the movie follows around two valley girls... as if they could survive without a blow dryer & someone to cook all their meals.

I felt as if I was brought up short, after expecting something a little more. The cast is what makes this one enjoyable.

I love the first half of the movie, but I don't like the second half.
This is a movie I think could be turned into a TV series, as there's a lot that could be done with the concept.

This movie irks me. Main character has a run-in with a zombie, and notices that everyone's reduced to a pile of dust, and her reaction, when talking to her annoying sister, is to be pissed off? Then later they get to a radio station and hang out there for about 20 minutes of run time. OK, that might be safe for the characters in reality, but you introduced the movie on the premise of survivors vs zombies, but instead you have the survivors standing around doing nothing?
Then the shopping mall scene. Everyone is dead, there are zombies roaming around, let's go to the mall and play dress up! The whole characterization is so off base that it kind of sinks the movie for me. Then there's the totally uninteresting think tank stuff.

A fave of mine mainly because it never took itself seriously.
