On the one hand, John 10:29 My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.
(also, he gave them to himself)
On the other hand,
John 10:27Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid. 28 You heard Me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
Contradiction. To put it in mathematical terms, 1. jesus = the father 2. the father > jesus
Let the excuses and doublespeak commence!

I believe it's a metaphor, the Bible is full of them. Jesus is God in the flesh

The expression "one" in the first selection is probably more like a "Three Musketeers" one, "All for one and one for all."
It means more like "unified." No contradiction this way.

If Jesus was God then His was no real sacrifice since a deity cannot die and presumably would have know that.

He may be god with a little g but there are a lot of those.
Otherwise, it's best to simply think of him as he thought of himself...The son of God.
