I have always praised the MCU for its male costumes. I find that they're able to balance aesthetics, practicality and faithfulness to source material pretty well. They look aesthetically pleasing but not campy. They're still close enough to the source material to be recognizable but also made to be somewhat practical in the real world.
However, I have to say I don't feel the same way with the female costumes. Other than Black Widow's suit which closely resembles her comic counterpart, I found the rest of the female MCU characters to look so far off from their comic counterparts that they're almost unrecognizable. Granted, I understand it's difficult to translate into screen some of the more risque female attires, but I do wish they could find a decent middle ground that could retain enough of the character's comic look to be recognizable but still able to fit into a semi-realistic world.
DC was able to do this with Supergirl and Wonder Woman. MCU on the other hand: Gamora, Scarlet Witch, Elektra and Sif have all been quite lackluster. I hope they don't make the same mistake with Ms. Marvel. At least Wasp looks like she's going to look good.
Though to be fair, MCU is still way better than Fox in this regard.

I think Captain Marvel will be the closest to the comics as it's a rather straightforward uniform. Carol Denvers in her Ms. Marvel days... That would be something. As for WW and SG they are basically the same pieces made of different materials. Upper body piece, mini-skirt and knee high boots.

I like the costumes worn by almost all of the women of the MCU. Their designs look like they had the input of a woman as opposed to being devised by middle-aged men trying to lure young prepubescent males to their product. In some cases, I wish the comic books would switch to the MCU version at least on a limited basis. Girls like to switch it up, so it's nice to have options. Scarlet Witch would be the only exception to the rule. Natasha can wear whatever she wants. RE Fox, you ain't just whistling Dixie, my friend. Look at this bunch of sad fashion victims. SaveSave

SaveSaveTo be fair, majority of comicbook costumes are made (and drawn) to accentuate the character's figure and make them look as attractive as possible... and this is true whether they're male or female. The male costumes have retained enough of their original look to still be recognizable but have toned down the costumes in order to fit in with a realistic world, but they still indulge in making them aesthetically pleasing. Thor's arm maille for example has sculpted muscles built into them. Now I fully support that the female costumes should not completely look like their bikini/lingerie counterparts in comics, I'm just saying that I wish they still retained enough of that look to be recognizable. Elektra for example in the netflix show, she looks nothing like she does in comics. Just a red scarf to cover her face and then basically a black tanktop and jeans. I mean, c'mon costume department. You can do better than that. I just feel like the costume department didn't put as much effort into the female's costume designs as they did for the men. It just looks lazy and unimaginative. And although I know Fox is pretty bad with costumes, by golly I've forgotten just how bad till you showed me those pics.

They had to make changes because Gamora and Wanda would look like cosplay prostitutes. That being said, they didn't even try with Wanda. I think Elizabeth Olsen wore that outfit to her audition and they just rolled with it.

Their costumes just look so meh. When you compare it to the kind of detail that went into Cap's, Thor's, IM's, even Falcon's or Star Lord's attire, theirs just seem so lazy and drab. And it doesn't resemble their signature look at all.

I do wish we could have seen something a little closer to the Scarlet Witch's iconic headpiece. When Fox released those stills for X-Men: Apocalypse, I decided to pass based on the costumes and makeup alone. Every one of those characters looked like an escapee from an 80s rock music video or the James Caan version of Rollerball. Also, they had a ridiculous website that had bios for each of the characters. It included all of their powersets, and most of them were inaccurate.
